I finally got my Carawagon down from Qld.
Pretty excited to get started on it.
It will need a full mechanical rebuild as it hasn’t been used for 39 yearshttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190213/c58ef95f20b84c0cc83ac004e4884c26.jpg

Congratulations, should keep you busy for a while.
I see it has the rear pull out awning (well I can see the frame), how complete is the interior ?

I’ve got the tent for the frame and the seat that converts to a bed but the cupboards have all been removed unfortunately.
It still has its original engine and came with two additional engines and has a gal chassis

was the gal chassis standard?

was the gal chassis standard?
No not standard.
The guy that I bought it off used it between 72-80 for mostly family camping trips in Fraser Island
Then he fitted the gal chassis then it’s been stored since.

We managed to get it in my garage which was a bit of a mission as the driveway is steep and narrow and the carawagon doesn’t run.
I placed the Hilux in the back yard and ran the winch through the garage back door via a snatch block which worked out fine.
Now I can start working on it. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190302/f6bd14accbc55dee16e7cb94b96042f8.jpg

The rear awning tent has seen better days but will definitely work as a pattern for a new one.
The curtains all seem to present and in good condition https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190302/1722c37e0a8ec070660904640d84bef4.jpg

I’ve been clearing all the bits out of the rear.
Pretty frustrated how the PO stacked the gear inside.
The plan is to retain the paint/patina but the passenger door now has some serious scars from being transported down. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190303/948349972dc829f28f03919cdfe40eac.jpg

That's a shame about the scrapes on the door.
I'm paranoid about moving panels in the back of a car or trailer and take bits of cardboard, blankets etc.
Colin.

What a great find! Should keep you occupied for ages, but the results could be amazing.

It definitely will keep me busy for a while.
The first step will be replacing to rusty foot wells and splash guards then probably require it ready to drop a motor in.
I guess I should check the gear box and transfer case before the motor goes in but I didn’t know much about them TBH

Are you going to rebuild the motor?

I hope to get one of the spares up and running and eventually rebuild the original [emoji106]

I’ve been cleaning out all the gear that was piled in the back. There were quite a few spare axles and shafts in the back many with the wax wrapping in them still.

There was also a bag of books in the back. There are some parts books and owners manuals in there [emoji106]
