Hi there, the D4 is getting new tyres so I am wanting a wheel alignment done. Perhaps someone has had a positive experience with a wheel alignment done on their Land Rover in Castlemaine, Kyneton or Bendigo Vic. Should you wish to share your glowing recommendation I'd be pleased to hear it.

Yes I agree about the can of worms.
I cannot answer the OPs question but if the wear on the old tyres was fine do not do a wheel alignment.
If there was abnormal wear get an alignment.

Yep, 100,000 kms, on my second set of AT tyres and only one wheel alignment when I had the front LCA’s done, otherwise no abnormal tyre wear so no wheel alignment. Regular wheel rotation every 5000km or so.

Can of worms opened. ..here we goAfter researching the "Can of Worms" I was very nervous of using a local tyre shop, but as as I needed a wheel alignment desperately after replacing the LCA's I bit the bullet yesterday as I'm a long way from a LR dealer. The result appears to be very satisfactory at this stage, it helps if you are confident that the guy seems to know what he is doing with the latest equipment though. Nick

I had mine redone by the local stealers tyre outlet next door to them and am well pleased with the result. After 15K there's no undue wear on the new Maxxis I had fitted.
They really took their time not like the previous lot I had supposedly checking and adjusting for outer tread wear at the front.... max. of 5 mins in the workshop and that was it.

I see you're in Augusta, WA. Even though Albany Landrover is no longer, I'm sure that there have been enough LR's around that part of the country that any reputable tyre/wheel place would know what to do.

If the tyre guy doesn't know what Tight Tolerance Mode is and doesn't have a tool to get the car into TTM, I wouldn't use them. If they talk about leaving doors open or any other weird stuff like pulling fuses ... forget it.
However, I imagine there are a lot of places out there that are more than capable without having to use LR.

Can an IID Tool be used to put the vehicle into TTM?
Is there a LR spec? i.e. does Rave exist for the D4 and state it?

The Beissbarth alignment machines I use have Discovery 3 target data specifications, which is identical to the D4. If that's what you mean by "LR spec"??

I just checked my GAPIID Tool when I got back from a drive.
The steps are: Service Test/RLM-Suspension/Set Tight Tolerance. There's another setting to disengage TTM too in the same spot.

Thanks for all the responses and advice. I get the point to leave well enough alone, and as there are no signs on the present set of tyres that the alignment is out, I'll keep an eye on the new set and perhaps all is good. I've had some bad experiences with wheel alignment on the D4, thus my search for recommended local businesses.

Sorry for the slow response.
As far as I'm aware the GAP IID tool is one of the most potent diagnostic tools out there, especially if you purchased the VIN License for your car. It can get into more things than the Australian dealers' tool can. It can definitely put the car in TTM.
However, the other edge to blade is, if you start friggin with the configuration settings, I believe you can seriously screw the car up......so be careful how and where you play.
