My "New Disco 5" picked up in Sept 18 (after order placed in March) - 5 months and the AGM Battery is failing to fully charge. Even with an external Smart charger over night - max voltage is 12.5V in the morning but back to 12.2V by end of day after a 6 km trip.

Car booked in for a BM system module check/upgrade ( just completed a 2 day exercise to have 4th Gen 18x modules up graded in Jan 19) but it seems the large Exide (80 aH, 800CCA) battery is an early failure.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? I am told that when you park your car in locked garage don't leave the fob key in the car. "Guilt your Honour" in the early days but it seems the car never switches off completely - Stand By mode only it seems constantly draining the battery even when the car's ignition is turned off and locked up. Problem may seem to relate to my multiple shorter trips of less than 10kM daily - not long enough for the battery to fully recharge. But does not explain why even over night charging (setting=10Amp 14.4V) Smart Charger still can not bring terminal voltage to within 12.6 to 12.8 V.

I might have to look at a Varta G14 battery that is design for quicker charging and designed for modern repeated "Stop Start" cars.

High performance fast charging works with smart-charge alternators.
Designed to handle the extreme demands of Stop-Start technology.
Maintenance-free.
Full 24 month replacement warranty.
Made in Germany.

Not cheap!! close to $600

Just another problem with this New Disco model and its FIO issues and change of oil at 6000km. What else can go wrong with this LR Disco model? - turning into a lemon that is going to hurt LR reputation and add to its financial losses of millions over previous FY

What has been the experience of other New Disco owners?

Why are you looking to replace the battery when you have a warranty that should be replacing the battery?

I was under the impression that the D5 used a capacitor for the stop/start function, not the battery.

Short trips and leaving the fob in it would not have helped, but it should recharge overnight on a smart charger, as you say.
Does your warranty cover it?
