I have just fitted two second hand update lights (D2a) and bumper to my 1999 TD5.
That went OK. but does anyone know how to fit the old wiring into the new looms that were cut off the donor car with about 200 mm of wire attached.
I have looked through all the stuff on how to do it in Landy UK. The trouble is my wire colours differ from theirs.
I am hoping Aussie L rovers all have the same bog standard wiring protocols. Has anyone else done this mod here and could you pass on the knowledge please.
Regards Nick. (Worane).

What colours are the wires which you say are different?

Hi Sierrfery, For a start they talk about the brown wire, I do not have one.I dont know who "they" are but there is not supposed to be brown wire to the facelift headlamp just tell me what colour wires do you have, for example on the RH side the loom of the facelift headlamp should have 3 x black, green/white, blue/orange, blue/black and red/orange

Thanks for the reply S. I have just tumbled to the fact this rooster on the pommy forum is using trailer wire as an extension.I have shortish wires about ten inches & the plugs for the new bumper with fog lights and facelift main lights. I just need to get my head around which wires go where. Do I just put colour tracers to the same colour tracers?

Can't help with h/light but if the bumper came with fog lights then they should have plugs on the ends of the wires. Attached either side of and under the grill support you should find two plugs not in use that should be the fog lights. You will however, need to access with a Nanocom to activate them and put a relay in the fuse box under the bonnet and an appropriat switch.
I didn't replace the bumper on my 2000 D2 but I did fit fog lights to the bull bar and accessed these plugs and added relay. I also acquired an OEM switch for the dash which was simply plug and play. Then just use Nanocom to configure.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Chook.
Is there a power source in the front of the car that hooks up to the fog lights?
It came with plugs and a short ( 200mm )cut off of wire. Just not sure where they plug into for power.

Just confirm do you have 200mm of loom out from the headlights or from the bumper? Also you didnt have fog lamps on the original bumper? i want to help you and i'm sure i can but i can't as long as you didnt answer my question(which i asked twice) about what colour wires do you have in each new loom
in the first post you said
...does anyone know how to fit the old wiring into the new looms that were cut off the donor car with about 200 mm of wire attached.
then i asked about wire colours and you confused me with:
Right hand plug shows no 1 dip beam blue/ black. and no. 2 black they are transposed on my plug.which makes no sense to me
...so if you want help you better describe exactly what wire colours you have in each new loom and i'll tell you which colour wires from the old looms to connect to them... or if you have RAVE(for the electric library-connector views) i'll make it easyer
for the beginning here are the colour codes: so for example US = blue/grey trace

Are you going to fit the different rear lights as well? Add the CDL?

Hi Sierrfery. I do thank you for your advice, it has helped a lot.
I was using a landy UK forum tutorial. It took me some time to work out he was wiring up his brand new face lift lights using trailer light wire. That is where the brown wires came into play, ( he did not have the required lamp plugs.)
I now have nearly everything working as it should.
All I need now is a relay for keeping both dip and main beam on together.
Lastly I need to find out where I can find the power supply for the new fog lamps.
My old bumper did not have fog lamps .
Regards, Nick.

Even if the bumper didnt have fog lamps IMO the looms should be tied up there in the area so search around there and if you find unused two pin plugs with UP and B wires those are for fog lamps...if no joy you'll have to splice into the output of the fog lamps relay from the fusebox ... you'll have to lift it and find the UP wire in C0574 pin 2 (see Electrical library - connector views), no other point to splice in cos it's hardwired to a header under the dash and from there hardwired to the lamps

Attached either side of and under the grill support you should find two plugs not in use that should be the fog lights.
As above there should be two unused plugs on the front, one on each side. You may find them easier when you remove the old bumper.

I would just just like to thank Sierrfery and Chook D2, who have helped this "electrical idiot" out of the woods.
The fog lamps now work, as well as the main headlights.
I just have to wait till tomorrow when my buddy turns up with the relay and fuse.
Thanks all for your help.

No Bohica not doing rear lights. I am just hoping to maybe get a bit more candle power down the road out front.
I am not trying to make it a 2003 lookalike.
I have two pencil beam Super Oscar spotties and when I dip them for on coming traffic it is like midnight on a rainy night.

I love the look of the update lights but I just put some Philips +130 (or+150?) globes in without even upgrading the loom and I don't think it's that far behind, if behind at all the Deefer with Cibie Z beams and 100/90 H4's

I'm glad you are sorted worane.
I fitted Osram nightbraker laser +130% bulbs in mine cos even though i like the look and light of the facelift lamps i dont like the ideea of changing a bulb in dark under heavy rain cos compared to what involves a bulb change on a pre-facelift the facelift is a nightmare also H7 bulbs seem to last less... my H4s have around 3 years and still going strong

Can the plastic lenses handle that much heat, Rick?

Do you have any pics of it? And was it an easy job to fit them up. I have the d2a lights and would like to do the same.

A good tutorial for the body work is here Discovery - headlight conversion to 2003 on lights | LandyZone - Land Rover Forum (https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/discovery-headlight-conversion-to-2003-on-lights.71266/) neglect the wiring things ... though before you go for it better find somebody with a facelift and try yourself to change a bulb(just for test) then when it's done imagine that it was on the side of a motorway in dark and pooring rain... that's the only reason why i didnt do that myself... though it's a matter of choice and i can understand that for the benefits of a nicer look and better light there are guys like @worane and others who dont care about the extra hassle... not the case of such lazy man like me [bigsmile1] [bighmmm]

I was wondering what is the highest wattage I can run in these polycarbonate lights without melting something?

Sorry Sprover, I did not do pics this time, only before and after.
The job is fairly simple. You will find a 100 mm. angle grinder ( I use the very thin discs) to be just about all you need and a pair of safety glasses.
I started looking at a tutorial from landy Uk forum.Do not get confused by the guy talking about wire colours. He is using trailer light wires as he did not have the proper lamp plugs.( his comment about the Brown wire stuffed me up for a while.)
I am not very good with electrical string but just ended up splicing like coloured wires to each other and it all worked.
You need a relay and a 20 amp fuse. I ran mine from the positive in the fuse box under the bonnet and put my relay where my jack used to be next to the ECU. You will find this relay work for both sides of the car.
The relay allows both low and high beam to work together.
The best tutorial IMO is from TD5 Alive. It is I think from the UK again.
I hope this is of some use to you or someone else.

You need a relay and a 20 amp fuse.
Actually you dont need that only if you want to have both dip and main beam to be on together which is not a factory option. I'm not the fan of this as i dont want LED headlights and with classic bulbs the headlamp assembly can suffer due to the extra heat.

I should've been a little clearer in my post Ian, I love the update lights but have stuck with the pre-update ones. (Unless I find a screaming deal on the later ones)
No extra heat as they're 60/55 globes.
The pre update lights are a glass lens, aluminised plastic reflector I think? (Without checking)

I'm wondering though what's the benefit of having both beams on together other than shortening the bulb's life ? [bighmmm]

More light,, well actually more coverage might be the better term...
but if you are going fast enough to need highbeam then..........

Bye the way I got the lights, grill and bumper in the correct Epsom green colour from our local independent LR dealer for $200.00 all up, plus about ten dollars for the fuse and relay. They came from a donor car that had a blown motor.
