So today I decided to take the rear bumper off to replace a couple of faulty sensors. All going smoothly. Removed the rear wheel carrier. Just have to take the plate off that the RWC latch catches on. The RWC is well designed and strong. The latch plate is bolted onto the bumper with 4 M8 bolts. Then some “genius”decided to use bolts that use a 5mm allen key. What’s the chance of a bit of corrosion making them difficult to get out? It’s only on the back of a 4WD. Should be fine.
Couldn’t get any out. Ended up drilling the heads off. A job for tomorrow. Replace with hex head bolts as it should have been in the first place.
Discovered the harmonic balances or as someone called them, Discovery testicles. Apparently if you remove them, you castrate the Disco and turn it into a Freelander.

An interesting piece of engineering.
