G'day Guys,

So i know this has been covered a few times and i have read all the old threads.

But has anyone done a recent pad and rotor change and if so what did they use.
I am currently looking at DBA rotors but i am unsure on the pads thinking either bendix, brembo or EBC street pads.

I'm not to worried about dust from the pads.

Any advise would be great.

Cheers

Just did mine over the weekend for the first time. New front disks, new front and rear pads and front sensor (rear disk was well within specs). I went with genuine Landrover as I didn't have the time to fully research alternatives and dust doesn't worry me.

ive done mine twice in the 70k klms on the vehicle. first time using bendix 4wd, which i took out 17k later and replaced as they warped all 4 rotors.

second time, machined rear rotors and installed dba T3 4000 series fronts with DBA Xtreme Performance pads all round. very good pads, bite really well and great pedal feel.

I don't mind that standard gear, but i'm just looking for that bit extra due to towing requirements.

Cruiseh, I did look at those, did you machine the rotors the first pad change or just install new pads?

Where did you guys order from? brakes direct have been the cheapest ATM for rotors.

Now just trying to source a torque wrench that will hit 275Nm with breaking the budget, Is Bodsys brake bible correct for the front caliper bolts?

Used a Bosch OEM spec rotor and Textar brake pad
( made in UK ) on my brother inlaws Range Rover Sport 2012 . Same setup as the Disco 4 3.0 , so far so good nice pedal feel but I can say the Textar pads are dusty.
I recently did my front pads on my D4 , good to go

Will be interested to hear how you find these, I’ll be replacing mine in the next couple of weeks, and it’s this combo that I have looked at. Brakes direct seem to be the cheapest, but I’d happily stand corrected

supercheap auto are cheaper on the pads as I've just found and will price match if you show them a screen shot and they will match if you need them quicker.

think i'm going with DBA pads and rotors from the info given

DBA is a safe bet, I went with RDA and TRW pads which I'm happy with after 2k.
Spares box had a sale on brakes parts so check their prices.

I found my local hire place had a huge torque wrench that covered the right value. Just had to buy a cheap adapter 3/4 - 1/2 drive.

At the moment I’m on DBA rotors and Bendix pads, the 4WD heavy duty ones at the front have completely shagged the front rotors in about 65,000 kms, so I won’t be using those pads again.

i like the DBA rotors, but thought that even on the standard spec they could have used the passivisation coating. This is not the case so they’re all rusty now.

Most likely I will now go for the RDA slotted and dimpled rotors and TRW pad combo.

still in two minds whether to do the rear set at the same time.

I must say i have not been that impressed with Bendix brake pads.

I was going to do rears as well but the fronts were almost to metal and discs were stuffed, when the rear pads need replacing which will be soon i'll do pads and rotors.

I found the same, the rear set is wearing nicely, no grooves or warping. I find this odd as I understand the brake bias on these cars is apparently set 40:60 front to rear (could be wrong). In my view must the pads then.

I was looking at them too. Another alternative is EBC green stuff Kevlar pads. I'm also looking for that extra bite especially when towing. Brake fluid ( and hoses too come to think of it) is all due for replacement ....

On the job list it goes

I have recently replaced pads, rotors and sensor on my D4, at 90,000km.

I used RDA rotors, TRW pads and Protex sensor. All for around $550 from Performance Car Parts Online in Craigieburn, Vic.

The choice of brands was a balance between quality(1) and price, with a quote at around $600 for genuine pads alone. So far I am pleased with my selection, but early days yet.

I still have the original (genuine) discs which need a machine, but are still within spec, if you want them for the cost of the freight from Ocean Grove, 3226.

Note 1: I am no expert, so "quality" is as recommended by various brake service and parts dealers.

cheers, Ken

I recently had my rear pads on D4 replaced at 63,000KM by LR dealer. Asked did the front pads need replacing as well, as usually the front pads wear quicker than the rear. The service adviser said the original rear LR pads are softer than the LR front pads, and if you are a gentle driver ( which I am ) the rear pads will wear quicker.

Not sure if this is correct, or BS to make me feel better over cost of replacement.

Was that both front and rear ? My rotors/pads came to just over $200 for the fronts as i bought each on sale from different places.

Bought some Delios Command 4WD front rotors today, I had previously looked at posts on the forum and these came up a few times and seemed like a good option, I wanted something at the HD end of the market, I do a lot of towing and when I tried to get some 4000 series (heavy duty) DBA rotors recently from Repco I was told they were not available. The rotors for the front are $394 and they also do rear.

Yep, replaced the rear pads at 88500km, the fronts will need doing real soon, but expect them to get to 110000. Left rear inner pad had more wear than the others (on the rear) and it seem left hand inner front is also the one to watch, at least it has a wear indicator on it.

?? Not sure thats correct, I believe the bolts holding the caliper to the hub are only specced to be at 100Nm, well within range of a "standard" torque wrench.

I think its the caliper carrier bolts that are 275nm not the small M8? caliper slider bolts.

They are NOT the ceramic pads. They are a normal pad with the Cotec coating.

as the rotors were new when i threw bendix pads in, no machining, but the bendix warped them so yes, i had all 4 machined 17k later whn i put the dba pads in. since then, no issues with the rotors..

How you finding these Delios rotors? Would prefer to benefit an Aussie company and wanted to see how these are going for you?

Sorry I can't give you anything definitive about the rotors, soon after I installed them the car developed brake judder (shudder), I initially blamed (suspected) the rotors and because I was running very short of time before we left for a trip to Western Australia I simply had the original rotors machined and put them back in with another set of new pads. Sadly the same thing happened after a few thousand kms, the brakes developed judder hence I have to conclude that the problem was caused by my poor choice of brake pads, plural. I wanted a better performing rotor/pad combination than OE and have basically failed against a number of criteria. I have not been able to get back to sorting through it and trying the next combination which will be back to the Delios rotors and maybe the akebono pads or just OE.
Having said all that, I think the rotors are fine, I did talk to the guys at Delios when I was having problems and they were helpful but not to the extent that they could recommend a pad, which I think is a bit strange especially since I recall discussing pads with them before I bought the rotors. That was a while ago and I could be mistaken, certainly won't be the first time.
Current pads seem to leave deposits on the rotors if you are a light braker (me) and so have to stand on them every so often to clean them up, it's a pita, and overall performance is not the improvement I was hoping for.
This also falls under the "I should know better" because I was involved in brake testing many years ago and I know first hand just how much trial and error goes into OEM selection of pads.
Have fun with that.
