Hello Everyone,
I recently sold my Disco & purchased a RRS SDV8 HSE Dynamic with 22" alloys & I'm struggling to know what to do with as my current tyres "Continental Cross Contact LX Sport" M+S 275/40R22 will not get me up to the Flinders Rangers & back....I've been reliably told by more than one or 2 people.
As I'm sure you all know, the choice of "all terrain" tyres on 22" alloys with good highway driving is limited. I don't fancy driving up & down the freeway in Adelaide on mud pluggers everyday!
So...I either find a 22" compromise or look at some 20" alloys like this link on Ebay from a guy in Melbourne who may swap my 22" with his 20"
GENUINE 20" LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER VOGUE Wheels COOPER TYRES 275 45 20 | eBay (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GENUINE-20-LAND-ROVER-RANGE-ROVER-VOGUE-Wheels-COOPER-TYRES-275-45-20/223388311220?hash=item3402fb1eb4:g:UHMAAOSwC4lcY-q4:rk:46:pf:0)
My concern is that I don't even know if they will fit on my RRS....with the big red brembo break calipers & they're actually listed as RR Vogue alloys? The tyre plate does suggest I can fit 20" alloys??
I do like the Scorpion ATR's as they served me well on my Disco & are available in the 20" size (275/55R20) but the RR is a different beast & I'm not sure it has the clearance for 55's?
Any suggestions?
Cheers
Matt

20" Range Rover Sport rims will fit but the ones you are looking at are from a previous model (L320) and the offset is different. They would probably be OK but you would be better of getting L494 Sport or L405 20" rims such as the ones here (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2015-RANGE-ROVER-SPORT-ALLOY-WHEELS-20INCH-GENUINE-OEM-20-X-8-5-ET47/123580960277?epid=8023750471&hash=item1cc5ffce15:g:IawAAOSwh5hbHldZ:rk:4:pf:1&frcectupt=true) and here (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/20-Inch-Genuine-Range-Rover-Sport-Alloy-Wheels-DK621007DB-Set-of-4/113348276218?epid=8023750471&hash=item1a64156ffa:g:gIgAAOSwNWhb3YfC:rk:1:pf:1). They are the same as those that I have fitted to my V8SC Autobiography and fit over the Brembo calipers without an issue. I would suggest putting 275 55 20 AT tyres on the 20" rims to give the best chance of avoiding problems.
I would also suggest getting 5 wheels as your spare 22" will not be of much use if you get a flat.
Be aware that these 20" wheels come up fairly often as people buy the base model Sport and then want 22" wheels. I paid $1100 for 4 wheels and tyres which had done less than 1000km. If you are patient you can get them fairly cheaply. On the other side 22" wheels can be desirable and get good prices.

Hi Matt,
Congrats on your purchase , I am sure you will enjoy it. - any chance you can post a pic?
there may be some offset difference between the RR Vogue wheels and RRS wheels, you may have to do some homework( I do not know the details).
What year is your car?, the local spec sheet stopped displaying the brake size after MY16, but the largest brake size then was 380mm which a 20 inch RRS wheel will fit over (e.g. mine). Also, when specifying the painted brake calipers on a build for RRS, it mentions that the wheels must be 20 in or larger. Looking at the RR vogue spec sheets, the same seems to apply. So, they 'should' fit ok.
For tyres, the Scorpion ATR seem to have issues in the wet when worn a bit, there is a newer model out called AT-plus, which might be better suited for flinders ranges. Normal tyre size for RRS with 20 in wheels is 255/55/20. The Scorpion AT-plus is available in size 275/55/20, which people report fit fine (including in spare wheel well) . (I will be getting these when my current tyres croak)

I doubt that L320 RRS rims will fit the L494 due to the already-mentioned offset. L405 rims may be narrower than L494 rims which would make sidewalls slightly less vulnerable on sharp rocks.
I have had the new Pirelli AT+ in 275/55R20 fitted to my 2012 L322 for a few days now which hopefully will prove to be a good tyre for my use. The ride on my coarse gravel lane at speed feels the same as the previous BFG KO2 in the same size suggesting their carcass is substantial although the ride on secondary sealed roads is certainly an improvement on the BFGs, with the lack of noise except for a little on very coarse bitumen very welcome. Towing the 2T+ van over the next couple of days will be another test.

OK my RRS came with 22 inch wheels. I purchased 4 L320 20 Inch wheels with cooper tyres for $1200, 285/45 20. The offset was 4mm different, load rating was higher. Beware that L320 rims have two different stud sizes, later ones are the same.
No issues with Brembos.

Continuing on the same topic and wondering if anyone can specify what the offset needs to be as I cant see that anywhere in this or other threads.
I’m looking for 20” wheels for my 2015/ MY16 L405 SDV8 Autobiography. Brakes don’t appear to be Brembo as no visual branding.
I’m wondering if these would be suitable , they are 53mm Offset.

The standard offset is 47 for 20" and those you have listed are 53 and from the L320. A smaller offset is better as it gives a wider track.
Brembos aren't necessarily branded, if it was ordered with red painted ones they were but the black ones aren't. I'm pretty sure all V8s have Brembos.

I used the L320 and they will fit see my Photo above. I was running 285 coopers and there was a slight rub which I fixed by adding a 3mm shim . Be care full as the stud patterns are the same but hole size varies, ask me how I know this. The outer whole needs to be the larger one otherwise the OME nuts will not fit. Load rating is higher for the L320 and the OME wheels have the LR oval on them .

Thanks for all the information everyone.....I dind't think anyone answered & didn't check back & now I feel a little silly!
Anyways, I've not pulled the trigger as yet but will have to shortly as the June long weekend is fast approaching.
After much research, I think I'm set on x5 ROH Blades as they have the correct offset (47), load rating (975 Kgs) & look pretty darn good in the picture which is pretty much my RRS.
ROH Wheels – Blade (https://roh.com.au/wheels/blade/)
What I'm now deciding is what tyres to shod them with & tossing up whether I sell the farm & buy Pirelli Verde all season Ecoimpact 255/55R20 $324 ea., Cooper AT4S (275/55R20) $446 ea. or Cooper SRX (255/55R20) $376 ea.
I'm leaning towards the Cooper SRX as they seem to have better off road capabilities without to many negatives like excessive road noise BUT....I've also found some much cheaper options & would like to know if anyone has had any experience with tryes from Accelera (Omikron AT 265/50R20 111s at $176 ea.) or Sailun Terramax AT XL 265/55R20 $189ea. or Hankook Dynapro HP2 RA33 265/50R20 for $276 ea?
255/55 is the recommended size but I've been told that I can fit 255/265/275 or even 285 50 or 55's?
What is the best choice for 90% on road, 10% gravel roads & sand?
Cheers all

Also Radar Renegade AT/5's? anyone used these on their RRS?

Hey Matt,
I had Cooper SRX's on my Grand Cherokee.
Awesome on road tyre and really quiet.
Sold it when the tyres had done 80,000 Klm's.
Probably would have got close to 100,000 out of them.
My brother runs them on his Prado and loves them.

I wouldn’t even consider 265 50 20. To get maximum sidewall 275 55 20 or 285 50 20.
I’d also be hesitant to run the cheaper unknown Chinese tyres.
Cooper tyres are polarising, I’ve heard some good stories on their full off road tyres but lots of bad stories on anything else. My experience with Coopers wasn’t good.
I have Pirelli Verde 255 55 20 on my car but only because the wheels came with them. I’m very happy with their performance but suspect they would be easily damaged in a rocky off road environment.
Maybe look at the Radar tyres from Bob Jane’s the new off road versions look pretty good and although they are unknown I think having Bob Jane selling them gives me some confidence that they are half decent

I have been running Coopers at least 20 years with no hassles whatsoever.
I have Cooper MT's on my off road beast, had SRX's on my Grand Cherokee (just sold) and AT's and AT3's on several other vehicles.
I can only highly recommend them.

Thanks for the heads up guys....was thinking that a 50 profile in 255-275 wasn't enough in term of sidewall protection, especially if letting them down to anything approaching 20 psi. So that narrows it down to 255/265/275 or 285/55R20's.
What's the pro's & cons 255 Vs 285...does the extra width give you anymore stability or is the 255 size a better "all terrain" size?
The Cooper SRX's are tempting & I will chase up the Radar Renegades but they do look to be a more agressive tread pattern so I'm thinking much more road noise?
Keep the advice coming.
Cheers

Would an offset of 35 be ok or would the rims be too close to the Brembo calipers?
Likie the look of the CSA Raptor & to a lesser extent the Stealth but both are at an offset of positive 35?

Well I've bitten the bullet & bought ROH 20" Blades (8.5 with an offset of 45) with Nitto Terra Grappler 265/50's.
Would have preferred 55 profile but really restricted my choices & at 275 wouldn't have fit without some rubbing at the front of the fronts..
Will send pictures when all done.

PS - Anyone or know of anyone after x5 22" alloys with 275/40R22 Continentals?

Different animals really & the Sport was an itch I needed to scratch, maybe not the SDV8 but it's lovely to drive & just wants to keep going over 3000 rpm. I'll tell you more once I return from the Flinders Ranges in a few weeks as I've not taken it off road yet!
I'm keen to see what the new Defender looks like when it's released later this year as I'm just not keen on the new Disco shape & the pricing has just sky rocketed $20K for a similar spec'd Disco from the last series...which is just plain stupid in my book

Hi Graeme,
Not confirmed but was told that they wouldn't fit....when I looked at my 275/40R22's, I have about a thumbs clearance from the front of the front tyres to the wheel arch so not alot of room. I was hoping I could go up to a 55" profile to give more sidewall protection but a dealer in Adelaide said it couldn't be done.
That's the problem in this game, speak to x3 people, get x3 different answers......hopefully the ROH Blades & Nitto's will be a good choice!

FYI I run Nitto Terra Grapplers 265/50 R20 on my 320 RRS they’ve been good. Taken them up North Shore and to Fraser Island. Good around town as well
