View Full Version : Rangie Flares - now fitted

G'day Guys,
Well the Rangie Flares are now fitted - they were needed as the new wheels and tyres I bought did not clear the guards!!!
THX to D110V8 giving me encouragement, and then letting Scotty do all the work - I was too afraid to cut the guards, especially the rear door.
The plan was to do just the front yesterday, but Scotty begged to carry one - so here are some pix:
Front guard all marked out:

Front guard now cut:

New wheel and tyre (Simex Jungle Trecker 2's 34 x 11.5 on flipped Disco rims)

Now with the flare centred:
http://www.aulro.com/albums/album433/Front_4.sized.jpghttps://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2006/04/57.jpg
Now you can see why we need to add the flares first:
http://www.aulro.com/albums/album433/Rear_1.sized.jpghttps://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2006/04/58.jpg
now this is where I got all excited, read nervous, so didnt take any pix while doing the first rear side
http://www.aulro.com/albums/album433/Rear_2.sized.jpghttps://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2006/04/59.jpg
thats a fair bit of door being chopped off:
http://www.aulro.com/albums/album433/Rear_3.sized.jpghttps://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2006/04/60.jpg
a mans got to do what a mans got to do:
http://www.aulro.com/albums/album433/Rear_5.sized.jpghttps://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2006/04/61.jpg
and just a bit more:
http://www.aulro.com/albums/album433/Rear_6.sized.jpghttps://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2006/04/62.jpg
and finally the end result, NICE ONE:
http://www.aulro.com/albums/album433/NICE_1.sized.jpghttps://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2006/04/63.jpg
Many THX to Scotty for the work, he enjoyed it more than I

Now that looks fine.
You're a braver man than me, I wouldn't dare make the cut.
Heap of weight on that passenger front rim, is it the tyre or the rim?

Your Rangie looks great, well done on the face, erm I mean tyre lift.
If you don't mind me asking, you said you fitted flipped rims, does that mean you just turned the rim the other way? Being a bit new to RR I had to ask , it just sounds odd.
And....
When you gave your rear door a trim what did you fill the gap with?
Just wondered.
Whatever you and your mates done it looks great.

It wasn't really planned, I had the flares and Scotty just rang me and said he had some free time!!!
I'm, telling ya, it wasn't easy watching him attack the Rangie with the 4" grinder 8O

The Disco rims have had their centres taken out and reversed - so now the old inside of the rim is now the outside of the rim, so makes the track wider.
I have another set that have just been done, I can take some pix of these if its going to make it clearer?

The rear flare that goes on the door is basically a U shape, so it covers the section that has been cut out - with plenty if black sikaflex!!!

Next is the winch / winch bar and then I can fix up the springs.
Currenlty they are Lovells Rangie V8 ones Front RFR-5 190lbs/inch and have dropped a lot since the Tdi went in.

G'day Bryce,
I got mine from Graeme Coopers here in Sydney - they are supplied by Les Richmond Automotive. You may be able to get them through All 4x4 Spares at Kotara, which would be closer to you.
