Hi all.
For the last few months, I have intermittently had the red battery light come on. After stopping a restarting, it went away.
This has occurred maybe 4 times in 5 months.
Last night, on the way home from work, it came on and would not go off.
This morning I did a code read and received "P0622-00(68) Generator field terminal circuit".
The car is a 2006 V6 Petrol Auto.
I'm guessing this might be an alternator issue, or could it be a battery on the way out? I do not know the age of the battery and there are no dates visible on the battery itself.
Obviously the replacement battery is a cheaper option than the alternator, but would I waste my money replacing the battery, and then have to do the alternator??
Would appreciate any advice anyone can offer.
Thanks
alan

Thanks Justin.
Just checked battery and standing voltage from sitting overnight was 12.48V.
Started the engine, and NO red light came on (GRRRRR!!!!) and charging voltage 14.62.
How easy is it to change an alternator on a V6 petrol????
From a time point of view, I might need to get this done by a mechanic.

The brushes may be very worn. Can you get the alternator to an auto electrician for assessment?

Alternator replaced this morning and charge voltage is now down to 14.1 volts.
Big shout out to Triumph Rover Spares in Lonsdale who did it in an hour on Saturday morning.
Oh, and now I'll look at getting the old one "serviced" to keep as a spare, if it is worthwhile.
