just a general question. i'm looking at upgrading the tired bits of my td5 interior etc. i would imagine that when l/r built the disco 2 series they tried to keep same parts in both versions to keep costs down. Is it so ??
engine mounts, gearbox, transfercase etc would be different as expected, but what else ?
thanks for any input.

From what I have seen interiors, seats, headlining, door skins are identical. ECU, BCU different I suspect. Maybe IDM (underdash fuse box) different? Cheers

engine mounts are obvious differences, but as ozscott says, almost all interior is the same, just watch for different trim patterns, and trim levels.
Brother has an '03 TD5, and I have a 99 V8 parter, and my 00 V8 project.
We used the all the seat stuff from my parter into brothers, and at first glance trim looks same, but is totally different(both grey). So now he has one pattern for seats, but different pattern on door cloth area.
There are also different shades of black for the centre dash area. Dash is the same grey colour(I think called smokestone), so stuff like binnacle cover is same, but the black centre area is different shade.
transfer case is the same, except for the various internal differences such as CDL, no CDL, CDL but no linkage .. etc. but this is year dependent, not engine!
Actual T/C mounts are the same(that I've seen so far) dunno if they ever changed anything on T/C mounts.
Many minor bits underneath are the same too, eg. we used the rubber hangers off the V8 exhaust on brothers TD5 exhaust. Exhaust is obviously different, and may be mounted at different locations, but the rubber mounts are the same.

thanks for the input. gives plenty more options when sourcing non engine/gearbox parts.
what about abs system ?

I'd guess ABS system itself may be the same on a year by year basis too(really no idea), brakes are same/similar tho, other than the vacuum system between diesel and petrol.
We also changed, ie. rebuilt the calipers off the 99 V8, and then fit them onto bros 03 TD5, no issues there .. etc.
So ABS pump, sensors etc, will be same, except for any changes in year vs year that they made.
What gearbox? Autos are different too apparently. Different bellhousing, input shaft lengths, different torque converter, flex plates .. etc.

These differences are D2a and D2 I would imagine
