View Full Version : New new defender thread

We need a new thread, one with less drivel in it. With only important stuff in it.

Personally, I'm excited about the New Defender. I've got a 2011 D4 and guess what car I want to replace it..... something like the D4. Something that's pretty square and boxy and is as good on and offroad as the D4. Something that is customisable to some degree.

So we really don't know much so far, except there will be a range of engines and a range of body styles. I thought I'd repost this picture that purportedly shows a SWB Defender being tested. It shows that the roofline is vastly different from what we've seen on the cladded versions going around.

So, only good/new stuff here, no drivel.

Cheers

Indeed. ...or how about a thread for discussion by those who actually want a new Defender, not drivel about it being great because it looks like it will be a re-badged Discovery 4?

149498Kinda like this?

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l660-defender/256581-won-t-retro-post2893993.html

That post started as a new thread, mods merged it as it was apparently too similar, even though it had instructions to not post, rather post in won't be retro, it was made to just use as a "sticky" "what we know" kinda thread.

Everytime new info comes to light, its updated and reposted in won't be retro thread.

Pic you posted is in the won't be retro too.

Agree with a thread just for people looking at buying a new defender though, called as such.

Its a bit tiring all the yota fans trying to convert us or convince us how bad the old defender was, or how un 79series like the new one will be, on a landrover forum.

If you can convince the mods of a new thread great.

Maybe called, "Potential New Defender Buyers"

I doubt it.. [emoji6]

I want a new Defender - but obviously until there are any hard facts from Land Rover themse, I can’t make a proper decision...

Can't see any point in a new thread when no substantial real "Factory JLR" stuff is known.

Thank you Pickles.

Yes we have been bombarded continuously with non JLR releases and fake news from non experts ....

......and it's probably going to continue until Land Rover themselves make official releases.

Pickles. If people haven't been following the discussions from the start maybe, imo MOST of the car can be ascertained already.

Let me put it this way, what is not known or highly likely?

Zeros

Nothing at all is actually known about the new Defender by anyone outside JLR.

So far it's all entirely speculative by journo's and AULRO members, and/or marketing spin by JLR. ...Spin is not facts.

The only fact so far, is that a highly camouflaged test vehicle purporting to be the next Defender has been tested. This test vehicle looks remarkably like a Discovery 4. There are a few details that can be surmised from the images, such as independent rear suspension and the general size of the vehicle.

BUT THAT's IT. Probably not enough at this stage for a new thread. Unless of course you want more speculation ...LOL.

We know the following:

Rear mounted spare

Side swing door

Fully independant susp

Air susp

Coil option

Panoramic roof seen on nurburgring vehicles

Approx approach and departure angles

Minimum 6 seats

Family of defenders

Utilitarian and lux options

Small to large wheels

Low to high power engines

Different brakes

Boxy shape

Etc etc etc

So much is known.

From the link above there is so much more known and stated on record by JLR about what it will and wont be.

I guess some people have to wait until every detail is on the brochure, they miss out on all the fun. [emoji41][emoji4]

Mate you’ve just described the features of pretty much every current SUV in the world.

Mate you’ve just described the features of pretty much every current SUV in the world.Actually no, you said only this is known, and its not factual.

"There are a few details that can be surmised from the images, such as independent rear suspension and the general size of the vehicle."

So everything in the link every car in the world has as well
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l660-defender/256581-won-t-retro-162.html#post2893993
I think not, every SUV has incredible approach and departure angles?, 3 front seats?, air susp? Side opening rear door?, utilitarian and lux options, family of defenders? haha, most don't have any of that.

I am posting in all threads in the L660 forum to reaffirm that the actions of some members here is causing others a lot of grief. I have closed 'It won't be Retro' for a couple of days to let everyone calm down - I expect the same thing on this thread - ongoing aggressive behavior by ANYONE will NOT be tolerated.

I'm with you Zeros, I dont believe you are trolling , and like me you are looking for definitive information from the manufacturer , which is not really forthcoming.

Yesterday I tried to search genuine release information from Land Rover officially and the reality is Land Rover has released nothing. Nothing of any significance at all , not one bit of solid authenticated information.

Everything else is speculation by journalists and reporters.

I am very much looking forward to genuine Land Rover releases , not being saturated by more photos of test mules of whatever they are. In fact I don't want to see another one.

This is an exciting phase, and I remember the D1 ...Land Rover released their information when they were good and ready....and the hill descent...nobody , not even journos understood it until Land Rover released their actual videos of the system in real time.

So , what I'm saying in support of you Zeros , is that Land Rover will again release their real info again....as opposed to journos, reporters , spy cameras and excited posters.......when they are good and ready.

Slightly off topic, but surely there could be some prototype defenders in Australia.

Where would they be? At LRs new Mascot HQ in Sydney?

They will be hidden well,no doubt.

As Aus is around 2 to 3% of the LR market,i doubt there would be any here even for testing.

Anyone got one on order.....?

Maybe Blackie?[thumbsupbig]

FWIW,there is a fantastic late model real Defender for sale at LR Springwood, probably overpriced no doubt.

All I'm guna say is, I know for a fact preorders are available and refundable, so its a no brainer to get an early build slot, I personally am happy with all their testing in factory and real world plus quality these days, so prob just a few software updates etc.

1st year of D5s didn't get sucked into a black hole

If it keeps ticking my boxes on full release, full Order Sept, hopefully Jan/Feb delivery [emoji1417]
