I have been installing a reversing camera. For running cables I used a Poly Eiger 4mm 3.6m Yellow Poly Cable Feeder $4.80 from Bunnings. As I have drawers I couldn’t remove the trim without removing the drawers. With the cable feeder I just needed to pop a trim clip, feed the cable feeder in, pick up the cables in the rear left compartment behind the light cluster. Tape the wires to the cable feeder and pull through. I was also able to feed the wires through the wiring channel to the front of the vehicle instead of on top as the auto electrician did on a previous job. Best $4.80 I’ve spent.
But the real challenge is getting the video plug from the rear ceiling through the rubber tube into the top of the rear door. So this is how I did it.
Remove the ends of the rubber tube from the ceiling and top of rear door.
Take a long screwdriver and carefully work it through the tubing.
Take a long cable tie ( longer the better)
Tape it to the screwdriver’s shaft. The tag end of the cable tie towards the handle of the screwdriver.
Pull the screwdriver back through the tube until the end of the cable tie is through the tube.
Take about 10cm of heat shrink and slide it over the plug and onto the video cable.
Lay the video plug just in front of the head of the long cable tie. The end of the plug is pointing towards the tube.
Take a small cable tie and fasten it around both the wires as they enter the plug and the long cable tie. The small cable tie should be between the head of the large cable tie and where the cables enter the plug.
Slide the heat shrink over the joint and shrink it.
Spray with lanolin spray or similar.
Grab the tag end of the long cable tie and pull through.
Using the heat shrink was the light bulb moment.
Why don’t these ideas come in the first 2 minutes and not after 2 hours???
Hope this may be of help to someone.
