Okay, I'm asking this here as there isn't a home audio section in The Parking Lot like I thought there used to be.

It's been a while now since I was last looking at speakers in my home audio set up (about 20 years I reckon) and things have probably moved on in that time.

I currently have a pair of B&W 101 speakers attached to my trusty Cambridge A500 amp. Unfortunately times are changing and I need to get some smaller speakers to fit in with the new place I'm moving in to. And when I say smaller I mean around the 10cm wide mark. When I looked in the late 1990's you could get really high quality, small speakers around this size but they weren't what I was looking for at the time. And they were a bit exxy.

So, does anyone have any recommendations, suggestions or hints on what there is out there that is nice and compact but a decent quality?

TIA!

Don't do it! Keep the speakers you like :) I upgraded my series 1 richter wizards to Richter Dragons last year. If have to upgrade, I'm quite happy with the dragons. These are floor standing so you wouldn't need to worry about them fitting into any specific shelf/spot. They can just stand all by themselves on the floor!

Maybe https://www.aulro.com/afvb/communications-car-audio-and-electronics/ would have been better.

I did consider that but car audio is a different kettle of fish.

If you are after quality bookshelf speakers these Q Acoustics are excellent. After much research I’m happy with them + I’d like to add a subwoofer now. Lots of other models too on this site.

About a quarter century ago (feeling old now) I got a pair of Jamo Coronets for similar reasons. Not bad for little 'uns and well made and solid. I used them as surround speakers for a while, too. But they're more like 175-200mm across the narrow bit. Not sure if Vifa make anything that small but their 25mm tweeter is amongst the best you'll find.

True, but that section also covers electronics - better than General Chat.

They're too wide. I'm looking for some proper little 'uns.

Bose?

A friend had some tiny Bose speakers and I thought they sounded as good as the a set of Wharfedale 2180 bookshelfs I have (er, had, I just gave them to my daughter) (I still have my Wharfedale towers).

Wharfedale... I recall hearing my first set of those (proper towers) driven by a decent valve amp and quality turntable. Beautiful. I got all emotional at how good they were. Carlton Hotel near Albert Park it was, mid 90s. Some sort of audio show I stumbled into. Sorry, OT...

I've been collecting and upgrading my system for almost 30 years now [bigwhistle] Hi fi can become very addictive and expensive, a bit like land rovers I guess [biggrin]
