Researchers uncover 66-million-year-old fish fossils from the day the dinosaurs died - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-04-02/research-into-the-day-the-dinosaurs-died/10960446)

If a similar occurrence were to happen now, how much notice would we have and could we do anything to prevent or mitigate the impact?

With our technology i think we would see it coming but wont be able to do FA about it. Unless Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck are free that day [bigrolf].

So, serious question, how much notice will we get, years, months, weeks or hours?

So, serious question, how much notice will we get, years, months, weeks or hours?

Serious answer Ian:

Most probably no notice - the most likely asteroid that we wouldn't see is a "Sun-grazer", one that comes from behind the Sun being "hidden" from our view by the Sun's glare. So always be nice to each other in case that happens :)

The odds of this happening in our lifetimes are incalculably long.

That is what the dinosaurs said [bigwhistle]
Personally though IF an event like this was to happen I would prefer Not to be told about it.

IF, this where to happen, I would like about a week notice..........

so I could go back to Tassie, say hooroo to the mates, cuddle the cuddley ones, and belt the living suitcase out of the very prominent cad whom swindled 10 grand from me.

You will have about 1 day less than the time to the next federal or state election.

Mitigation measures will be announced by then.

Just don't be in a swimming pool when it happens.

you will all be dead before the end of the world.

no known asteroids are on collision course.

the only known or predicted end of the world currently , will be caused by Sol as it starts to change from its white dwarf phase into its red dwarf phase.

scientists claim indications are that it has started the first phase , hence why we are seeing continuous small but incremental increases in our average temperatures around the world.

the human body cannot sustain higher than 42*c average daily temperature , at this point it is unable to remain cool enough and starts to shut down.....super heat stroke.

some areas of the land may soon start to reach this average daily temperature and people will simply move away to a cooler place that can sustain life. Eventually this will cause population crowding with resultant food and water starvation problems before the temperature increases claim their lives. in reality we will all be burned to death if we dont kill each other first.

sounds like a movie, but scientists and astrophysicists seem to think within 1.5 million years Sol will grow so large as it supernovates that it will consume the first 5 planets and totally destroy the orbits of the others.

by the way these are not my predictions but those of scientists, astronomers, physicists and astrophysicists

But what about the Zombies?

From what I've seen in 'documentaries' zombies seem to work with high levels of cooperation and self sacrifice and do not attack each other - compare that to non-zombies. My guess is they will be the first away into space before the 600 million year deadline.

Well, we are all going to die, eventually. It's how we live that counts.
