Defender-whining pwr steering pump

Power steering pump has just started whining, gets louder/quiter as you rev the engine, also when in the car park on the weekend the power steering became very heavy - could not move the wheel.

How reliable are these things and do I just get a geniune replacement pump fitted to the vehicle. Have only done 116000 kilometres.

Fluid level appear to be OK - dont know when the fluid was last changed.

This is a good candidiate to buy from the UK as they are considerably cheaper and can be airparcel posted.
