Over night some scum bags in Vancouver CA have used a random number generator and picked my account card numbers, they then put them into the banking system to see if it is a real account, if it is, they start hitting the account with multiple transactions until the bank works out it is fraudulent or the account owner finds it.

So far they have taken me for $102.17 in eight different transactions from six different companies, this account is with ING.:no2:

I had to cancel my card and now have to wait 5 working days for a new one, so I have no access to my money and because easter is so close the new card might not be here before the holiday.:wallbash:

Scum like this should be dropped into a vat of acid......slowly.:2up::rocket:

Eldest daughter got done for $1000 , started off at $10 then increased slowly till they tried a $500 withdrawal which trigger the alarm. Bank rang her and asked if she had just tried to make the withdrawal when she said no they shut the account.

Cheers Ean

Has happened to both my partner and I in the last couple of years. Both of us got hit with Westpac Accounts and I got hit with an ANZ account. Only two weeks ago my DBS account in Singapore got hit too by some suspicious Google transactions. In all cases the banks reacted promptly and funds were replaced. In the case of Westpac we both had to get replacement MasterCards.

We had around $1K taken out of our business account by some scumbags, shopped at Bunnings.

We have no idea, and the bank would not let on, how they did this, although they refunded the money in 7 days.

My BIL had a business payment going to a Chinese supplier for $80K intercepted and stolen.

It took the bank 6 weeks to refund the money.

They skinned my card at the petrol station a couple of years ago. Within 24 hours they were spending on 3 continents at the same time which triggered the bank to react.

I've had a couple of accounts hacked in the last five years.

One the vendor actually picked up and rang me from OS that someone had placed an order with their Chinese subsidiary (Sat phones were ordered!) and they cancelled the transaction, it didn't look kosher.
The bank tried to tell me nothing was wrong!
That ****ed me off!

The other couple of the times the bank actually picked it up and warned me that they'd closed the account, once was at 4:30am!

It's so easy to get someones PIN number, stand in any line like a petrol station or super market, bunnings etc and try to enter your card number there is no privsay and in servos the security camera is recording you so your pin pressing could be on camera, didn't they used to tell you don't give your PIN out as its like signing a blank cheque if they steal your card

I have a new CC in my pocket after the old card was used to try and fail to buy some stuff from Bunnings online. Bendigo bank kindly blocked that and several other transactions two weeks ago. New card took 2 days. I still had online access to my accounts.

Re Passwords a totally random and shockingly hard to impossible to recall password covers all my accounts and computers. I have a password wallet which has two step validation. One is a slightly possible password and the other is via my fingerprint on my phone. Im not paranoid as this is really easy. I did have another banks card used to buy a flight from Dubai to Hong Kong. That transaction was oddly tougher to stop. The plane was still in the air when I reported it and it honestly amazed me at the time the bank or MasterCard did nothing to try and catch the person who committed the fraud. I've grown up a bit and now know they do not really care as we all pay for the frauds via the ridiculously high rates they charge on Credit cards.

Link to a tough random PW generator, I generate 50 or so at a time and only use a few radomly picked from that list. I also edit the ones I use randomly. adding, deleting or changing capitALiZation Numbers and symbols. [biggrin]

No they don’t care, but I have been surprised how quickly they have been onto all our recent issues. Like you I use norton password generator and two tear authentication and have a ‘secure card’ in my wallet to stop skimmers using wifi to skim you as they walk past. Cash is still king...but no longer convenient. Plenty of places take cards only now..

My wife had her card skimmed. (front and back numbers)

Took $14k in three transactions in about 60 mins. The bank didn't even realise (which bank you ask?).

It was by a legit company were it was being processed however they clearly didn't care where the money was coming from as no secondary transaction number was requested. (no confirmation sent to mobile phone)

It was being processed for online gambling with an office in Sydney (horses).

Generally we keep the account low and if this was the only account with some clams in we would have been stuffed for house payments and other bills at the time.

Got the money back but took some time (2-3 weeks).

Moral: 1. Don't put all your money in one account 2. Don't connect secondary accounts to cards by default (otherwise they will also empty those).

I am not a supporter of banks or their behaviour but I must admit with a recent incident we had our business bank was excellent.
I had to order some equipment on line for our kitchen, at the time I was very busy so I asked my (then) kitchen supervisor to do the order & I would do the payment.
After he had done the order I was tied up with a customer so I gave him our Corporate Card & told him to do the payment.
NB I did not give him the PIN.

About 2 weeks later I had to get rid of the kitchen supervisor due to other issues regarding his work & mainly his attitude.

I then got the CC statement for the preceding month, I didn't get to check it for a few days due to other work. When I finally sat down to go through it I was shocked! Airfares all over Oz, Pizzas, cigarettes, haircuts, bus fares, you name it. I immediately got onto the bank & stopped the card. I then did some long winded on line report to have this Ex employee perused for fraud.

The bank refunded all the money that had been defrauded, they also gave the police a heap of information to help their investigation.

So I am now slightly happier to pay the ridiculous bank fees.

Yes absolutely have multiple accounts and don’t link them. Makes it just a bit harder for the bad dudes

Yeh

My credit card got clipped for $12k last year over a 2 week period with some one billing their google AdWords account to it. Bank West didn’t pick up on it and when I brought to their attention they said I still had to keep the account in good standing while they investigated.

It it all was sorted in my favour but the lack of transparency or an explanation of the investigation given I could have been liable was distressing at the time.

End result is there is a lot less business going through that card.

cheers
