A neighbour has just acquired a BMW X5 diesel. I asked him what happened to his previous ride. He said the engine exploded (wife driving up the freeway to Bris) and rather than get it fixed (for about $15gs) he's parked it.

8 years old, rarely off road, regularly serviced and with about 250,000ks on the clock he's said goodbye to his Landcruiser. Wasn't impressed....thought it would last forever.

Another about two weeks ago: A friend has a recent Volvo XC90, and when it came time for tyres, he changed only the two fronts as they were far more worn than the rears.

A week after the tyre change his wife (driving to the shops) rang him to say it was making strange noises and had stopped entirely, wouldn't go.....

Chewed out the driveline; no drive to any axles......but fixed in just 3 weeks! and now has four new tyres.....

Cheers, GQ

The Volvo was actually about five weeks ago, now, he was panicking a bit as he'd booked the ferry from Syd to Tassie and was a bit touch and go about getting the Volvo back in time for the trip. I must have been having a 'senior moment'. Time flies when you're having fun..... (Should I tell him to run run chains on each tyre when he goes off skiing in July?)

I like X5's well moreso the D3 as it likes to have them for breakfast, lunch and dinner 8) ,

Not an X5, but I had a run with a Subaru Forester GT today - tried the 'sand setting' trick from the lights, and she fairly booted along https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

I didn't keep up after around 50km/h, but up 'till then it was neck and neck!

Cheers,

[/b][/quote] Offroad obviously I would kick its toosh and onroad I have mixed it up with a few and come out on top bar one and that was only becuase I backed off as we had already hit ummm over 100. It was quicker off the mark but the D3 caught up with it once I hit 3rd gear https://www.aulro.com/afvb/. Thats why it eats them for brekkie, lunch and dinner  , it will take it on the road and whoop it off road,

Geez, diesels dragging.
That would be like watching test cricket when Slasher Mackay was at the crease.
Those who understand that are obviously older than me.

Chipped TD5's are fast though. When I stick the boot in I scare people. Very funny to see a Defender 130 leave everything in its dust. Only prob is the fuel consumption.
