I have a friend who is going to buy a Defender 110 TDi, he has one he's looking at on the weekend it's a 1999 Def 110 with 180,000ks on it, are there things he should be aware of with the last model TDi Defender.

Price is $20,000

I've told him about service history and the like so is there anything else.

His family are Landy people having had a 200TDi and 300TDi Discos in the past.

Baz.

The two that I know of are:

-- Oil in the ECU wiring loom. Need to replace the entire loom.

-- Oil pump nut comes undone because LR did not use loctite. Can be quite serious 8O

I would not be getting a '99 TD5. Would prefer a later model TDi 300.

How much do they want for the '99 TD5?

The very late model 300tdi's are probably the cream of the crop so I'd say if service history is in order .. he should go for it. If he is in Sydney .. get him to take it o Graeme Cooper .. they do a sales inspection for $100 .. get Ward to do it .. he will tell you if its worth buying.

Baz, for a moment there I thought you traded in the Disco!! 8O https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Like all second hand diesels check the oil in the dip stick (viscosity/smell) then if you are handy check the diffs, transfer and gear box (the nose knows best, burnt is bad!).
