Water pump cycling

The van has the usual flick tap and I use the panel power switch to turn the pump on,, usually only just long enough to fill whatever needs filling,, paranoia about pumping both tanks out if I split a hose somewhere I guess--
I changed the accumulator down in Tassie, so it really not that old, pump?? who knows.. but it runs/works without any issues.
At the moment when I flick the tap there is no residual line pressure..
I'm pretty sure this is why we changed the Accum in Tassie,, what other faults will cause the pump to cycle?

Only thing I can think of is that the line is losing pressure somewhere, in other words a leak. It only needs to be an occasional drip for the line pressure to drop. Could even be the washer in the tap itself

Could also be some foreign matter holding the one way valves in the pump from sealing

I had to replace the Jabsco pressure pump in my Jayco Expanda because the old one Karked it, I haven't got an
accumulator fitted to the van and the water just comes on when I turn the tap on,
The pump provides plenty of pressure for showers etc., Do I really need to fit an
accumulator?

When we leave the switch on our pump cycles on for a millisecond every now and than....

I just assume the pump leaks back a bit as I cannot find and leaks in the pipework

I am pretty sure that there is a return valve built into the pump and that could be slowly dying and is causing the "Cycling", If you haven't got any leaks then its no big deal really just turn the pump off when not using it.
I always turn the pump of at the switch when not using it, Just in case.

I pretty sure the accumulator is more to stop the micro switching weeds is on about,, this was probably a concern when this van was built,, but maybe new pumps dont have that worry??

Mine, no accumulator, does the same thing, no leaks. I am assuming a leaky non return valve on the pump...until I find the leak that is.

I run an accumulator in my van, and I get the odd tick from the pump - I’ve found in mine it’s caused by some crap in the pumps non return valve as mentioned. I’ve pulled it all apart more than once and it’s fine for a while, then starts again. My tank is 50 years old and has some strange stuff in it - green slime that clogs the tap up too - no, I don’t drink the water and a new tank is on my list of things to do.

Maybe there’s a bit of crap made it’s way into the inlet of the pump that is just holding the non return open just a smidge.

And I’ve found since fitting an accumulator that the water flow is smooth like you’d have at home and not jittery like it was before fitting one - no, you don’t need one, it’s just a nicety. 👍
