Hi, I have a defender extreme 2002 model. I have an ABS/3 amigos problem that I am trying to find. Using my newly arrived Nanocom the I see that the single error reported is:

08-01 Pump relay short to internal supply.

The fault appears on startup and re-appears almost immediately if cleared by the Nanocom.

To put it mildly I don't know what this actually means. Replacing the relay did not fix the problem nor did cleaning and refitting the ECU earth. The relay has four wires connecting so I don't know which if any is being tested to arrive at this fault. So far several hours on Google have not turned up a useful description or debug procedure.

If anyone could shed some light on this or point me to a useful link I would be grateful. Also, this is my first post so if I am not doing it right please let me know

Hi Wally

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately I can’t help with your problem but if you give an indication as to your location there maybe a forum member handy to you who can pop by and assist.

If you check the ABS pump motor fuse, under the drivers seat in the black fuse box it may be blown. The defender ABS modulator and pump sits in a place where moisture can get in, and the pump motor can seize, sometimes blowing the fuse. Either that or the relay is no good. Possibly swap a relay over and retest? **edit saw you had swapped relay, so does it click when ignition is on, just after vehicle starts?** and does the nanocom have an output test screen? Should be able to activate pump relay and hear pump running.

Thanks justinc, I should have mentioned that I have already checked all fuses and links that supply the ABS ECU or the pump. The Nanocom can test run the ABS pump on each wheel and it does so normally. I am reasonably certain the relay itself is not the problem.
