When reading Douglas Mawson's "The Home of the Blizzard", the picture painted by Mawson's discriptions looked nothing like this
Government response to Antarctic inquiry — Australian Antarctic Division (http://www.antarctica.gov.au/news/2019/government-response-to-antarctic-inquiry).
Mawson and Co probably never pictured anything like this!
Then there's the latest heavy haul equipment for even further down under than you are.
Heavy tractors chosen for Australia's Antarctic inland ice quest — Australian Antarctic Division (http://www.antarctica.gov.au/news/2019/heavy-tractors-chosen-for-australias-antarctic-inland-ice-quest)
Then there's this..a solar farm down below.
First Australian solar farm in Antarctica opens at Casey research station — Australian Antarctic Division (http://www.antarctica.gov.au/news/2019/first-australian-solar-farm-in-antarctica-opens-at-casey-research-station)
Anyway all of the above are from the latest edition of the Antarctic Newsletter.

When you have finished looking at the snazzy accommodation give Mawson's book a go. Great stuff.

I wonder why the Horsepower figure is combined? 2 engines?

I saw that so I assumed for the work involved in shifting the model the machines work together.
I saw a programme about the British Antarctic Survey and their base is constructed in modules so it can be moved. Self contained units that join together. Great idea, takes a lot of planning but ends up making a lot of sense.

Nope, only one engine in each - they are 500 odd HP each, so they’ve combined the total of the 5 they’ll use - probably as they’ll all need to be hauling at once to move what is needed.
