I’ve just done my first engine oil and filter change on my MY14 TDV6, following the LR workshop manual.
Sucked out the old oil using the vacuum tube, and removed just under 6.0ltrs so all OK (Car oil level was indicating full).
Fitted new oil filter and refilled with 5.0ltrs of new oil, ran the engine for 10 minutes, left the engine off for 10 minutes then checked the oil level using the vehicle level display and my iidtool.
This is where things went a bit strange. Vehicle display showed just above minimum and said add 1.0ltr, iidtool indicated 5.8ltrs. Left it another minutes no change on either display. Added 0.5ltr, ran engine for 10 minutes, off for 10 minutes and rechecked. Vehicle display now showing halfway, iidtool 6.3ltrs. Added another 0.4ltrs (5.9ltrs total), ran engine for 10 minutes, off for 10 minutes and rechecked. Vehicle display now showing full, iidtool 6.7ltrs.
I know the iidtool shows a calculated volume, but it seems to be quite a bit different to the actual volume.
Has anyone else had this, or can explain why it’s happened?
