Mud Guard Spacers.

Good Morning
I was wondering if i should make up lower spacers for the Mud Guards, on my S3.
This may stop a build up of crud, and be able to be hosed through.
Anyone done this Mod ? what thickness would be ideal.

Not clear what you mean by spacers? Do you mean spacers for the panel joining the top of the mudguard to the footwell, to allow these to drain?

Yes John.
Bolt in Panel under mud guard.
s**t can collect between footwell and panel.
Guess why they rot.
I added longer bolt with washer and nyloc nut.
will give a gap of 1/4 inch. panel then extra washer and nyloc.
Now plate can be removed, easy if needed. (UK forum Mod)

Someone in the past mentioned fitting thick plastic washers (made from a cutting board) so that the area behind the panel drained.
You might still get a buildup of leaves.

I did exactly what Colin suggested using a hole saw to cut cutting board washers. Makes a nice neat washer

I haven't done this (needs water for rust - none of that here!), but I think it is a good idea. Still need to clean the leaves out occasionally though. The space should actually drain out to the side, as there is nothing to stop it, until you get an accumulation of leaves etc. It is not obvious to me how wide a gap is needed to make it self cleaning, probably depends on the size leaves you have!
