Hi all,
I am interested to know how many kilometres others have done on their SDV8's and what problems, if any, they have had.

Cheers, Craig

87,000 k's now in 3.4 yrs. Only issue has been turbos, on my third one which I suspect has been the same issue each time. Hope the last replacement and fix has solved the issue. In my case it was oil travelling from the oil level sender via the wiring harness to the turbo actuator and causing fault codes.

Car has been great I enjoy the drive and usually choose over the SQ5 if distance is to be covered.

Hi Bails, fyi, I noticed on fullfatrr, member Red Merle seemed to have a similar issue to you.

Hi Bails,
Did you happen to speak with Landrover to see if this is a common problem?

It sounds like it might be a once of leak....... well hopefully.
Were you told of a cure / preventitve that will stop it happening again?

Cheers, Craig

Hi Graeme,

Is my 2014 OK or should I look at having the wiring harness done?

Cheers, Craig

I understood that the problem only started occurring in later models so the loom may have been changed since the earlier L405/L494 versions of the engine. The 4.4 TDV8 in the L322 has the sensor on the outside so never a problem on those engines. Interestingly the sensor itself is the same part number for the L322 and L405/L494.

If I had one I'd open the loom wrapping in case the oil is migrating between the wires and the wrapping which would allow it to escape, but the oil may be migrating inside the insulation on the individual wires - I don't know precisely.

When researching this I found people that had had the same issue back to 2014 models. When I discussed this with the tech in Tamworth, by the way a great guy, he said this was now the 3rd version of the fix. The issue doesn't seem to happen to all vehicles and in typical RR fashion you need to have the problem to get the fix, lucky for me 1 month before warranty expired.

My partners car (2014) has just clocked over 105,000kms and is now out of extended warranty and will not be going back to the dealer for servicing.

So far it's had a few stints at the dealer for extended periods. First was a fuel pressure issue and dealer blamed bad fuel. Thankfully dealer paid for repairs. Had the turbo oil leak fixed...twice. Split a ball joint. Suspension still has a squeak and this is booked in again under warranty.

The RH headlight blew and was replaced at horrendous cost. It needs to go back to be replaced again as there is a smudge mark on the bulb that shows as a dark spot on the road when the lights are on.

I've heard of the switch on the gear lever collapsing and leaving you stranded. A new gear stick mechanism replacement is the fix here.

However all this is made up for the driving experience...and the power of the twin turbo V8.

up to 93,000 now and 3.5 years old. Covered in dirt as I type. Purchased the Redbook 3 year extended warranty which if it does what it says should ensure no extra high repair bills. I am changing oil every 12,500 k's now to keep dilution down. No one will get 25,000 k oil changes as the car ages as the DPF filter will slowly build up restriction and more burns will occur.

If the headlight was a bi-xenon, the bulbs are available for less than half the price that the dealer charges. I bought 2 x Phillips extreme vision for less than 1 x genuine.

Now have 130,000 k's on the clock. Car runs really well. I do intermittent oil changes at 12,000 K's and get my oil tested each time. Fuel economy seems to get better as the car ages.

I also do intermittent oil changes on my L322 3.6 tdv8.

What do the test results indicate about oil health?

The wiring harness for the sensor inside the sump has been revised.
In case anyone missed it, every L494/L405 with the SDV8 should have an additional short wiring harness fitted (campaign N375) that stops oil migration from the oil sensor harness connector on the block to the harness that attaches to it.

Funny took mine in for 130 k service today and was told this was to be fitted. I said I think mine already has this update as the current harness was replaced two years ago due to the dreaded oil seep to the turbo ECU.

If it gets done I will assume that they have again changed the harness.

Originally LR was replacing the harness inside the sump which is a big task whereas now just the extra isolating harness is fitted in a few minutes. If your internal harness was replaced then presumably the extra harness wasn't yet available so it still needs to be fitted.

Just picked mine up and it was done two years ago. Takes Land Rover a long time to fix known faults.

Service said I need new rear discs and Pads. $1300 supplied and fitted, TR spares Price $285.00 for discs pads and sensors!

Also need gearbox and diff flush , which I am happy to do , quoted $567.00 .

I haven't fitted rear brakes to my car as yet and am wondering how much in involved? Also for the gearbox and diff flush wondering if there are any people that might do this , Southern classic could not tell me how many flushes are done?

Nice. I can add mine here now! [biggrin]
68K
already had its first oil problem,,,,,
Rego inspection failed due to fluid on the belly pan.
( this did NOT go down well with Mrs Pedro, let me tell you...)
Further diagnosis reveals a spillage at the previous service the most likely cause.

First service is booked for the 3rd of next month( first available spot)

any tips or known issues to look for?
things that should have been done?

Degrease the area and hose off, at that milage the usual leak from the oil cooler should not be the culprit . I have had the oil cooler leak, now up to 133,000 K's and no other issues except normal wear and tear. Make sure the oil sender harness has been replaced, this is a free recall.
