I wonder whether it will be named the "Land Rover Archie"? That'd upset a few Defender Stalwarts.

S'funny you say that. No really. My new French vineyard next doors bought a new Kubota Slasher a couple of years back & I don't think I have seen it in Reverse gear no matter what. I reckon he thinks I am waiting to take the ****. He just goes around & around in the same direction most of the day but never seems to reverse. Maybe he waits until dusk?

I'll leap out in front of him one day & drop a big bloody rock in his path. I wonder if he will throw his hands up in surrender &/or make a quick retreat back to his fort he's named Maginot or drop all his equipment & run like old ****ery?

Only parts of the above tale may be a fib. You guess.[biggrin]

PSA purchased Opal and have to continue making the current Commodore although I'm not sure why because they aren't selling too well.
If they purchased Land Rover it wouldn't affect me because I'm not really interested in any of the current cars and especially, from pictures so far, the new Defender.

As Gavin mentioned.....being a pomme there isn't much love between the English & French (for some reason they don't like us bringing up the Battle of Agincourt)

PSA are currently on hold with the new Commodore - there are still 2017 models stacked up in paddocks waiting for Holden to sell them. They suspended production in around November and I don't think another has rolled off the line since - certainly not as a Commodore bound for Aus, but I'd imagine it's a platform for other vehicles they produce elsewhere too. It is an unmitigated disaster for Holden who are keeping this as quiet as possible.

Maybe they are ashamed & feel guilty, so maybe if they returned all their ill gotten money they received from Australian Taxpayers before they pulled the plug, may just relieve some of that guilt.[bighmmm]

It is obvious now read in hindsight, that there was not enough thought given to repercussions from loyal Australian purchasers who for years had supported the 'Goose that had laid the Golden Egg' & so is why today( based on the above post) they find themselves in the ****.

If they do buy JLR it will be down hill from then on . If you think JRL after sales service is bad it is only going to get worst. I bought a Citroen C4 about 8 years ago , the whole period of the warranty could not get the dealer to fix any thing under warranty . Once it the warranty finished they started finding all these faults I had been complaining about the last 3 years & wanting to charge me for them. Went else were it was a different vehicle after that. Only kept it another year .
As for the new Commodore my son in law hired one last month in Melbourne for a week ( he is a real Holden fan) said it was the worst car he had ever driven . Said it was very unstable & kept wondering all over the road . He is not sure it he will buy another Commodore after driving that one.[bighmmm]

According to historian Niall Ferguson: "of the 125 major European wars fought since 1495, the French have participated in 50 – more than Austria (47) and England (43). Out of 168 battles fought since 387 BC, they have won 109, lost 49 and drawn 10", making France the most successful military power in European history.[1]

In other words they won a fair few battles over that massive amount of time, lost and / or drew a few and never actually won a war.

They worked pretty hard to stick it out in Vietnam. Lost, but didn't exactly surrender.
Less well known than the British evacuation of Dunkirk are the French that held the German Army back so the Brits could evacuate.

All to no avail it seemed. Thousands of French then decided they wanted to be retrurned back to La belle France & bugger the risk that the Brits had run getting them out of Dunkirque in their hours of need "to fight another day".

Maybe the Brits didn't make as good a Croissant as they were led to believe & said "**** this for a game of Soldiers".

Is anyone here really serious ? I mean JLR has been in bed with Japanese, Germans, Americans and Indians. To suggest that being associated with French is a end of the world is laughable. What’s always been wrong with JLR is Reliability. They forget that cars are always on sold so if it’s got a reputation for being unreliable and costly to maintain then that hits desirability. Add to that the leaps and bounds of “ cheaper” products in both performance and capability it’s makes it real hard to justify buying on brand name alone. JLR used to sell to people who needed a product not those that wanted to flaunt a products name. Many years of owning both newish and older JLR products overwhelmingly comment is “ what crap British engineering/QA/QC ” they are. Nice but I wouldn’t want hassle. Until JLR fix that no matter who owns them - Long term I can’t see a future.
