One of my favorites, it could've been written about my young bloke and me, on Ben's first run to Cairns. Ben spent most of his school holidays in the truck with me.
It was never a holiday for him, he was always given a chore, the responsibility increasing with his age and abilities.
On his first trip to Cairns, aged about eight, I showed him where the winch bar lived and told him it was his (very important) job to check each tyre every time we stopped. I had to restrain him at the first stop, a red light in Gympie. [bigrolf]

????? Most were normal control with nice long bonnets and the whole engine sitting up there under bonnet not half under cab. Those 50's -60's Autocars and Petes had enormous BBC measurements compared with later eras.
