Why ?
Which mark was overstepped ?
Did you at least pass the information on to the member that asked for it ?
Was it an individual or group decision ?

Information was passed on, but why can’t you do this yourself rather than making others do it? It was deleted after the info was passed on as running a seperate thread here in GC on something that’s running elsewhere is against the forum rules, and besides, why should the Mods become your personal secretary? Please post any relevant information you want to pass on in the appropriate thread it belongs and you want it in, or PM the person you are passing the info onto directly in future please.
The decision was made by the Mods as a group and further requests like this will be deleted without being actioned.
Please let us know if you have any questions regarding this.

I choose to be a non financial member which means i can`t post in tech or vehicle etc .
In the link a post of mine is quoted from when i was paying and a question asked , i take this as a question asked of me .
The only way i can be any use to the member asking the question is by getting help from a paying member that is prepared to pass the information on .
The thread i started to ask for help to tell the member the answer to his question was removed and there is nothing about it in the link which means the information can`t be used by other members interested .
The reason for this thread is to find out what happened and why .
Why don`t i just pay the money , first reason is that the vast majority of my posts have been attempts to help members with problems that arise and paying to do that doesn`t sit well with me at present . Second reason is i spend too much time making sure what i suggest is correct as with the question in the link , i spent about 45 minutes checking wire colours , connects , ecus , looms , fuse , relays etc .

Thanks for you reply Gavin .
I don`t understand the reasons for your questions as you would already know the answers , i am a non financial member so i cannot do those things that you suggest .
Using Moderators as my own personal secretary is a bit rich as the help i needed can be done my any member who pays their money that chooses to help , being a moderator makes little difference .
The link being with the question/answer means it would take maybe 30 or 45 seconds to help , i`d suggest .
Had i asked in the Moderator section i would understand what you suggest and that is the reason i did not .
The member that asked the question and other members had the answer gone into the thread would be the ones to benefit from the help i was trying to give , i received no benefit from doing anything .
That`s the bit i don`t get , it`s members that loose out , people that don`t get replies like the torqueflite change points and the L322 transfer ECU both of which got not replies and both of which i could have given information .
I have some dealer XJ stuff exploded views and service bulletins starting 1976 that i couldn`t work out how to pass on , being tech can`t go in GC if i have the rule correct and that was the only possibility i had which obviously it is not but it would take some time to copy and at present i won`t be able but maybe in the future .
Again thanks for taking the time and telling me what went on .

Jeez mate , for price of several cups of coffee you can be financial.
If your advice is that good for other members then I suggest you put your hand in your pocket or goto facebook.

While your help is always appreciated by those that need it - the very reason this forum exists, it couldn’t continue without the very generous members here that stump up a few dollars each year to keep I afloat. I can assure you it is not a money making venture by the owner, but an attempt to future proof the site. You only have to look at the likes of Photobucket, Flickr and others to see that the golden age of free storage has gone and the world is shifting to a user pays model all over the Internet.
Look at it from our perspective - if we let your thread run here in GC and/or just copied the info into another thread, then that would show that we are happy to let this happen, and others may start doing so. While I doubt it would get to the point of opening the floodgates, it does actually take time to do this and all the Mods and Admins here are volunteers who already put in many hours a week each to keep the place running as smoothly as it can. Adding further to the workload can cause people to feel less inclined to keep actively moderating - I know this from personal experience.
Putting the blame of ‘It’s the members that lose out’ on us is a stretch IMO also, one could say that if you are happy to take the time and effort to look up and answer a members question but not pay a small amount for a supporters membership to actually take the final step and post it could also be seen as the issue here. Not saying you should if you don’t want to, that is entirely up to you, and you’ll get no grief from me about that, but shifting blame to us I don’t accept sorry.
Trust you understand.

FYI
as has been already mentioned, the subscriptions pay for the storage of the data, hosting and administration of the system so it can stay online for as long as possible to help those that need help,
that is why basic read access is free to all, not hidden behind a paywall and always will be while i am at the helm.
the portions of the system that cost the most to provide are the ones that are only available to subscribers after the trial period expires
this place costs $1000's to run each year and getting dearer each year.
it runs on three separate systems as well as services provided by third parties that are paid services
hosting costs for parts of this system will be going up 30% later this year alone
things aren't getting cheaper and a growing percentage of people use ad-blockers so that method of paying for things is dwindling at a rather rapid rate
a man does what he can...

Ok - well why not explain what is going on when you put up posts like these - I have no idea of the rights or wrongs but when a nonsensical thread goes up - of course there will be questions

Thanks Gavin , i can see what your saying .
I hadn`t looked at it as blame , i`m sorry if you think that , i see it as a problem that could have an answer not as being someones fault .
The work load thing i don`t really get as things will always vary but rest assured i won`t be pushing anyone over the edge .
I know the Moderators ETC do a good job , as i`ve been a member a while i can still remember what the Moderators were like in the early days , pack of rabid dogs it how i saw it then , nothing like that now .
I have only ever been interested in Tech and Range Rover the rest holds little to no interest to me and as i said elsewhere at present i don`t have the time so i won`t become financial because if i did i would use time here i don`t have at the moment and this makes it a personal decision because of circumstance .
It`s a shame about the service bulletins as they cover things like your jag and the 5.3 also things like the series isuzu release and other stuff and models all pre internet so likely not common i`d think but i don`t know that .
Cheers , thanks for you time .

Considering the costs of Landrover ownership and the ongoing maintainance costs involved in that ownership the "Supporters" fee on this forum is a drop in the ocean.
As has been said above websites are expensive to run and maintain and if we want to use a website it is only fair that we pull a few pennys out of our pockets once a year to help with that cost.
Nobody expects to go to the pub and get free beer, This website is no different and the costs of 10min at the pub covers a full year here.[thumbsupbig]
If you want to post content on the forum then put your hand in your pocket for a few cents instead of asking the mods to be your personal secretary's.

G`day David ,
thank you for the explanation and i see what you do is good , not easy and is time consuming and i`m not trying to say other wise even if that is how people read it .
What i`m trying to get across is a personal thing about the way i have used the forum , RR and Tech have been my interest and the rest of the Juggernaut if not there would not be missed by me .
I can see if i was a Land Rover person and not a Range Rover person that all the rest would be interesting and useful but i`m not , when i did my apprenticeship , series LR were rife living in a farming community , they were not endearing to me then either mostly because of working on them where they could go was another thing .
As with Gavin if you read what i typed as a blame thing it is not how i thought or meant , i don`t use an add blocker either .
Thanks for you time .
