Hi folks sorry about all the spam lately with this new to me vehicle.. :)
Just thinking I should disable the EGRs on this as from what I can tell its a good idea. But yeah just perusing the forums here and there seems to be a few options and I'm not clear on which would be best or how to go about any of them. From what I can tell you can just delete the EGRs from the ECU, you can get emulators from somewhere like autocode.. or you can just blank them off?
I'm based in Darwin so I can't just drive into a place to get the ECU modified.. I do have the GAP IIDtool on order if that helps with any of this...
I'm ok at basic mechanics.. can service a car etc... the youtube video about installing the emulators looks very basic.. just not sure if there needs to be any reprogramming or anything.. would I get a remap done also if reprogramming ECU and can this be done without going into a tuning place?
Any suggestions/pointers most welcome!
Cheers
Paul

You can use your IID tool to buy/install remap from Peter Bell Automotive to disable the EGRs and/or increase engine performance.

Just blanking them off will throw codes like mad. Have to fit an emulator if you want to blank, or tune them out. There can be some unwanted cooling system impact if you remove the lot (refer other thread going). I think if I did mine again I would have left them in and tuned them out.

Had each of my TDV8’s done with the full ECU remap that takes them out of play plus blanking plates in case something fails. Not cheap but money well spent if you do a lot of miles or are towing.... or just like a bit more power [emoji846]

Cheers mate.. so something like this would do the trick along with the IIDtool delete? RANGE ROVER Vogue and SPORT 3.6 TDV8 EGR Removal /Blanking plate DELETE kit | eBay (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RANGE-ROVER-Vogue-and-SPORT-3-6-TDV8-EGR-Removal-Blanking-plate-DELETE-kit-/152642302772)

Plates look fine, but i couldn’t comment on the IIDtool delete. Mine was done through Davis Performance and I know it took a while to fully de-bug the EGR delete, but that was a few years ago now. Someone else here might have more info on the other tune / delete packages.
Good luck!

Emulators and blanking plates working a treat. I tow a big van with no problems at all. Just removed the front 2 mufflers near the firewall too. Get a lot of great comments (even from my wife) about how great it sounds now.

can you confirm you tried only blanking first yourself and got errors ?

Does anyone know of a Perth based diesel tuner that has successfully completed the EGR blanking and retune on a 2007 TDV8

I had an IID Tool so bought the EGR delete software from Bell Auto Services and some blanking plates from a ? place in UK off ebay.
You do not remove the EGRs, just remove pipes from EGRs to inlet and fit blanks to EGR and inlet holes. Also need to cut off the butterflies that is at the entrance to the inlet manifold. So that bit is not reversible.
Easy enough to do it all yourself if you have played with mechanical things yourself in the past. The guy from BAS (Peter) responds nicely to silly questions too.
I think the EGR Delete software from BAS also includes a mild throttle response update, could be wrong but feels like it and think i read it somewhere. Can pay for and apply the software for a tune-up at the same time.
EGR delete is not for a performance improvement but helps stop carbon build up in the manifold and restricting performance as the engine gets older.
Anyway I have had no problems after it being installed for about 3 years.

Why did you go to all the extra work physically on the egr's rather than just the remap being enough ?

Fitting the blanking plates and cutting off the the inlet butterfly as well as the software was the instructions. Maybe the software doesn't stop things working, just stops errors after you fit blanking, but that's just a wild guess. You could confirm with BAS if the physical blanking is still required.

I contacted Pete, at BAS, and unless your egr is sticking open with errors, the software patch is all you need to disable egr function.

The issue on some vehicles was that the EGR had already failed and as such then needed to be blanked, often if the EGR is still functioning you can just turn them off in the ECU.
But that's just my understanding.

I have just had mine done last week. There was an error on one of the valves but this has since been cleared along with a remap done on a dyno. The valves have been programmed to stay closed and also physically locked.
Yes, it does run much better, but I'm not sure how much is contributed to the remap. It is nice to not have the engine light on though!
Pre remap 195Kw and 617Nm
Post remap 226Kw and 715Nm

I can not first hand confirm that. I was advised by my competent Inde that would be the case and I went with that.

My brother blanked his MY08 TDV8 RRS after performance issues pointed to a leaking EGR valve. The electrical connectors are still fitted and the pcm is original. The RRS is used almost entirely to tow his van and has had no issues since blanking the EGRs.

Hey Graeme, I was curious where you wrote about your Brother Blanking off his EGR.
And wanted to ask, did he just simply remove the EGR link up pipes on both sides, Blank them with plates. And start the car and Drive...
And whether he has had any lights on the dash or codes since..
There doesn't seem to be a definitive answer on the internet anywhere, if this is a possibility on a Sport 3.6 TDV8.
So many conflicting reports about , "yes you can" , "no you cant" Having to tune it out .
Just looking for someone who has first hand knowledge of someone having done it , with no ongoing issues...
Thanks mate.. Regards Marty.

He inserted plates at the valve outlets - the pipes are still fitted.
No faults or messages are displayed with his stock ecu. Note that L322 and RRS fault handling for this engine are not necessarily the same.

Delayed response but if you are still looking
Jordan Rover Tech in Perth
Davis Performance in Sydney - Bruce Davis did my 2007 TDV8 years ago when an EGR failed - blanked EGR's and a mid range re-map - amazing improvement in performance and being careful, could get down near 8l/100km on a trip, even with +200,000km on the clock
Recently checked hourly rates in Perth of a few different Idie's - Jordan the most cost competitive and with a top reputation, but still well above East coast Indie hourly rates.
