You may need this information to determine your polling place. After all, a sausage sizzle on election day is an old Australian custom. No point going to a polling booth that doesn't have one.

I hope all sizzlers have been trained in OH&S procedures.

West End State School notes that it is Ramadan and they have a halal menu. Hope they have an option of beef sausages for the Sandies.

Ok, last 2 posts have been deleted as someone will always turn things political given even half a chance. Leave the politics out of it please - it’s very easy to discuss this thread without going there.

This page is adorned with ads for the Nationals!

I'm afraid my polling place (Ballimore) is marked with a question mark. I'm not going to go another 30km just for a sausage! I have to drive 20km of dirt to get to this one.

I may have to cook my own sausages, postal vote for me too.
Happily I'm just outside the distance limit to my nearest polling place, by about 500 mts. I don't have to line up with the rest of the plebs...

I haven't got time anyway, I'll be lining up with the plebs at the Blues on Broadbeach festival.!

If only there were a single pollie worth voting for... can we still vote for Bob??

You can still pre-poll vote today. Just say you won't be around tomorrow.

Bob isn't a candidate.

Bob is a genuine ratbag. I think he actually believes all the **** he goes on about.

His son, Robbie, is a nice guy. I wouldn't vote for him though.

Bob's father was once described in the Qld. parliament as the most notorious gin jockey in the north west.

Ah! Those were the days of proper parliamentary language!

Another one from the Qld. Parliament of long ago.

Ken Morris, Deputy Premier and Treasurer was addressing the house and Tom Aikens, Independent Member for Townsville south said sotto voce " You're a low mongrel bastard, Morris". Those seated nearby heard but the Speaker did not and asked the Hon. Member to repeat his last interjection. Tom replied, "Mr. Speaker, I was telling the Hon. Deputy Premier that I remember his mother."

I hope this isn't political.....

If the sausage sizzle at my polling booth is being run by the LNP supporters and I don't vote NLP , can I still have a sausage?

DiscoMick
17th May 2019, 04:09 PM
Usually run by school P and Cs or sports clubs.

JDNSW
17th May 2019, 06:57 PM
Yes. It will not be run by any party (they are too busy handing out leaflets), but by some sort of local charity. If it is at a school, very likely the P&C. Of course those running it may well have some political opinions (they have to vote too), but the ones running it won't be the strong supporters.

Well, just back from voting. No sausages.

I queried this with the only party rep there (Nationals), and he said there were only 116 voted at this polling booth last election, so probably nobody thought it was worthwhile. He, as it turned out is the failed NP candidate from the state election, beaten by the SFF.

I know my feet were red when I got home as, I had to don footwear for nearly an hour, to partake in the cataclysmic event.

When I drove past a local polling booth earlier they were advertising egg and bacon rolls, which sounded yummy.

I have often wondered how many voters there are at some of the flyspecks on the map in Central and Western Queensland. Hamlets like Muttaburra which was down to 40-50 residents at one time not that long ago. Dick's Creek had three buildings a pub, a shed behind the pub, and the telephone exchange. All gone now. Olio had a railway employee and his wife and a handful of others. Corfield has a pub and a postcode but no post office. Once there was a boarding house at Whitewood but is is long closed.

I wonder how many of these still have polling places? A few weeks ago there was someone in western Qld complaining that they had a 300km drive to the nearest polling place. The polling place that has traditionally operated only 6km from here has not run for about ten years - the old bloke who was in charge of it ever since I moved here (and long before, I suspect) finally died.

Went to Norman Park State School at 2.00 pm to vote. Walked straight in, no queueing. The roll clerk said it was a madhouse from 8.00am to noon. Sausage and onion was $2.50. There was a queue at the sizzle stand. More party workers standing around than voters.

So what's on for election night dinner?
We're having a rack of lamb and lamb chops slow cooked on the smaller of our home-made smokers here.

Forget the democracy sausage, here's our lamb and t-bone going in the smoker at Maleny for election night dinner. I'm drooling just looking at it.

I may have only been voting for 20+ years, but I have never seen a sausage sizzle at any polling booth here in Western Sydney, local, state or federal level. Or is this an interstate thing? The first time I heard about it was through the ex, she was from Vic. The way the TV personalities bang on about it now you would think they were everywhere but I have never seen one.

Is it a new thing? I am honestly confused.

JDNSW

I think it is relatively new, and also probably a lot more popular in some areas as well. I have never seen it at any of the places I've voted, but almost all these have been very small polling places.

According to the map, when I looked at it a bit before the election, there were only about four in my electorate, which is just under half of NSW, with dozens of polling places.
