One thing I know nil of history is diffs in my RRC. I’ve noticed that when first driving off if front wheels are turned hard there’s an loud clunk from front. C/vs are good etc. It’s only once. Then today with hard slow u turn rear diff locked up I got a chirp from rear tyres. So I think at some point lockers - like Detroit or Ashcroft- might have been fitted. Question is - how to check? And what oil should be used if there’s lockers in there’s? I’ve got standard diff oil in. FYI when it’s on stands they all act like open diffs. Thanks[emoji120]

Drop the diff heads out and have a look. Shouldn't take long if you have a decent trolley jack and safety stands and basic tool kit. If you have a Salisbury it is easy. Take off the back cover and have a look.

Have you considered if the front radius arms need to have the bolts tightened on the axle?

They’re not Salisbury’s. Cars going to Mechanic tomorrow for RWC then load her up point it south and drive to Melbourne. Towing a smallish trailer. What could possibly go wrong? But - bit time poor at moment so won’t be dropping diffs unless they’ve like - exploded or failed. In a straight line on highway at oh I don’t know let’s say 120kmh - all good. It’s just on first turn and very tight u turn driveline seems to bind up.

Front radius arms were tightened as much as my puny arms could however it was rear that locked up in u turn

Looking back at your build thread I see it has an LT95.

It is possible your CDL is locked. Doesn't matter if the light is on or not, it might be locked and cause your symptoms.

Happened to me yonks ago and was the reason I joined Aulro. Have a look at my first post and the thread its in.

Weird tyre wear is a symptom of this.

Dunno what else it could be apart from a seized diff centre or sticking handbrake (don't laugh).

Thanks that crossed my mind. Gearbox was rebuilt and reco ( thanks Bearman) center diff fitted. Re light - well let’s say we’re getting to that 🤪

I will get guys to run through Eaton check list tomorrow to see if that’s possibly been fitted.

Ok jack up one wheel - center diff is locked ☹️fortunately it’s off to mechanics today including rear gearbox seal I have a spare diff lock actuator so he can have a look at it. Better to find now than on the road

If its an LT95 actuator I'd be putting a new o ring in it before installation. I've found the vac diaphragm part can end up with a fair bit of oil in it otherwise.

Ok simple fix the actuator vacuum lines were back to front. So with switch down- it was locked. Swapped them round it’s all working perfectly. Lucky we haven’t done many kms [emoji848]

I did over a thousand k's in mine with it locked way back when. Only symptoms were a very slight vibration and weird tyre wear.

7 yo son of a friend of mine had been playing with every switch, etc and the warning light switch wasn't adjusted properly.

No long term probs at all when it was sorted.

cheers, DL
