Hi All,
Recently purchased a 97 V8 petrol/gas auto discovery. love the car, and have been getting it sorted for some bush time. One thing tho, the bloody jack. You have to crawl under the car to position it under the axel then stay there to pump it up. great on a muddy hill or busy highway.
is there an alternative(safer) jack available to change a wheel.
Any advice would be appreciated
Regards

High lift jack? You could always use a trolley jack.

You shouldn't have to 'stay there to pump it up'. That's pretty dangerous.

My jack has two metal poles that join together and I can definitely jack the car up and lower it while not being under the car (for both front and rear). Perhaps you've only got the metal pole that pumps up the jack (and lowers it), and are missing the second piece.

Yes, there should be a second smaller diameter pole...

And why would you want another type of jack?

Lifting from the axle is the most efficient way (and safest) to get the wheel off. Especially as you only need to lift about 1/2" from the ground level.
