View Full Version : Which EGT gauge/Probe

Well, having confirmed my D4 2.7L does NOT have an EGT sensor to interrogate, I'm now after an after-market stand alone EGT gauge for towing the brick. Dazza's Dad will be charged with making up and threading the exhaust blank to cut off the EGR cooler - remembering I only have 1 turbo to draw on.

I'd love to have one of Ian Petersen's Thermoguards, but really don't have the dash room for his elongated digital gauge.

I have decided to go for a 52mm circular display in a single dash pod to sit on top of the dash next to the A pillar. Haven't heard of an A pillar mounted gauge/s pod suitable for D3/4, although apparently the Nissan one can be modded to suit the D2.

So, I've had good after sales service from SAAS, and they have quite reasonably priced stuff. I'm not interested in Redarc at over $400.

Any recommendations specific to a stand alone EGT gauge and probe?

The probe location in the small EGR cooler branching section of the exhaust manifold does not allow for a very deep penetration.

Cheers

Do you have a GAP tool or are thinking about getting one? I know on my MY16 D4 it will give me EGTs displayed as a live value.

That's the whole point - there is no sensor to tap into with either my GAP tool or my pending RovaCom IQ

Haven't had any issues with the saas stuff, the probes seem to hold up well, you can adjust to the length you require but the more the better, looks like you're going to get it done before I get a chance , If I knew if the quality was ok ,then something like this might be more discreet Digital Exhaust Temp Gauge EGT Pyro Hilux Patrol Amarok 4WD Turbo Diesel Petrol | eBay (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Digital-Exhaust-Temp-Gauge-EGT-Pyro-Hilux-Patrol-Amarok-4WD-Turbo-Diesel-Petrol-/162935504564?_trksid=p2349526.m4383.l4275.c10#viTa bs_0)

I'm assuming the probe is going to be fitted on the drivers side ( no turbo, Easier access ), interested to know what they run at with factory tune / remap.

G'day.
I'm running out of time for all preparation completion by late June and before the trip through the centre leaving early July, and you were already committed. Enjoy the SWAMBO birthday trip to Asia.

No, at this stage, and subject to any further discussion with Dazza/any better advice? the plan is to fit the blanking plate/probe on the passenger side next to/just prior to the turbo by blanking off that little exhaust branch to the EGR cooler (the hottest available spot?). In the absence of any clear help/info/advice to the contrary, the plan also includes leaving most of the EGR cooling stuff - concerns with possible flow on (bad pun) implications.

I did see those digital gauge examples while searching on line today, but not convinced about quality/longevity - too cheap to be true?

Pretty sure BAS EGR mod has already been done if I remember PO comments correctly (car continues to run well with now both EGR plugs disconnected) AND I plan to have a remap to slightly enhance torque for brick towing immediately following fitting the gauge.
