So How Good is this BlueTooth?

Dumb question?
I want to connect up my RovaCom IQ and reversing camera (both BT) to my mobile phone which in turn will act as the screen for both RovaCom and Reversing for starters. Once I get these 3 BT devices sorted, my manual says the D4 will support up to 5 BT devices, so maybe SWAMBOs phone can be connected too.

Do I need to worry about multiple bluetooth connections, or will it sort itself out seamlessly in the ether?


I did try to set up my new largish screen Motorola G7 the other day, but obviously stuffed something, so now waiting until the child of a friend becomes available to show me what to do.

I also have one of these - LRBT-1 – British American Concepts (https://britishamericanconcepts.com/product/lrbt-1/) to replace the standard auxiliary 2nd row seats plug and which is supposed to facilitate connections. I've emailed the inventor to get some more info.

I doubt it , I have 2 Samsung phones and an I phone , you can only connect one at a time to any bluetooth device, infact no phone will connect until the other 2 phones are unpaired or their BT switched off.

I can connect more then one with my Samsung phone. My watch is connected via Bluetooth and so is my head unit In the car at the same time.

In my experience you can pair your phone to many devices, but only connect to one at a time.

for example my iPad is paired to 8 devices. On the car stereo side I have 4 devices paired to the Kenwood, it apparently can handle 2 simultaneous connections but I’ve never had much luck.

It depends on the protocol of the devices that are connected.

there are motorbike kits that will pair with up to 5 of themselves and a phone each. so you can have a 5 way network chat and a phone on each headset.

some car radios dont keep a record of the number of units that are connected to it, once the phone or other unit is paired the phone or other unit simply sends its pairing info when its in range if the radio isnt already connected and the phone is set to use it as a default it will connect immediately.

some will pair to a set number of phones and all of them can connect at once BUT only one can stream or make a call. This doesnt have to be the same phone so you could be listening to your wifes music but any phone that recieves a call will take priority.

Cheers Dave, that concurs with my albeit very limited experience.
I visited Ferret on here last month before he took off for the Cape, and he was able to sequentially demonstrate all of the above on his D4 plus his music on a midrange Android device, so I live in hope.

Will liaise with Rok Dr next week and see what we can nut out.

I have a sony deck in my Astra that can handle 5 phones connected to bluetooth at the same time but can only use it one at a time. If u get 2 simultanious calls only one will connect at a time but all 5 devices can be connected to it at the same time. Not that it ever gets used by 5 devices. Only had 2 at one time

FWIW, I connect my Samsung Galaxy S5 concurrently to two battery monitors, Musicstream (A2DP) and D4 head unit (phone calls) - without any issues. As Dave mentions, they are all different protocols.
