hi all
My 2014 D4 has just ticked over 120k and as the 2nd owner I have yet to have it serviced since I purchased it.
I would like to get opinions on what I should have done over and above that which LR advises, such as do I have the transmission oil changed etc?

I live in the north west of Sydney but happy to take it a reasonable distance to get it serviced at a place I can trust.
Looking around there seems to be 3 candidates that would seem to fit the bill
Ayers Automotive Land Rover | Ayers Automotive (http://aauto.com.au/land-rover/)
Graeme Cooper Expert Land Rover service near airport at St Peters NSW (http://www.graemecooper.com.au/)
Davis Performance Land Rover Service & Range Rover Maintenance (https://davisperformance.com.au/service-en.html)
Does anyone have experiences with any of these or can make other recomendations?
regards
John

Of anything, at this point I’d recommend a gearbox fluid and filter change over and above standard servicing. [emoji106]

What the others have said, plus
- use a quality approved 5w30 oil if doing it yourself, or if serviced at LR they will use Castrol.
- Check the front lower control arms for play, brake hard and if you hear a clunk the front bushes in the lower control arms are shot.
- sway bar bushes - same issue, but more noticeable over corrugations, I.e. “clunkiness”
- if it were me I’d service the air compressor, (I’m still to do mine at 190,000km now)
- an air compressor check and leak down test of the EAS at each corner
- brake rotor and pads, mine were worm out at 120,000km

Are these cars likely to rust? I haven’t done anything proactive to stop this happening, should I? And what are others doing?
Looking underneath there is definitely surface rust on most of the metal but I assumed it would be just that?!

I've looked at my D4 from every angle underneath. No rust to be seen apart from surface rust on cast items like diff housings and the like. This is despite a fair bit of beach driving.
Maybe because of all the oil leaks this preserves the car better? [bigrolf]
I believe our climate is not as "rust promoting" as say in the UK or US where a lot of salt is used on the roads that really kills cars fast.
In my view the D4s are pretty rust free.

x2 for my D3. Lots of beach but just surface rust on the bits that have paint worn off.

Someone lost their D3 to rust recently in the UK but the salted roads there are an absolute car killer. I believe his rotted out under the sills until it made the internal seatbelt mount questionable.

Rust is a non-issue for Australian D3s and D4s other than the usual hose rinsing after beach driving. I’ve not read one forum post on the subject in 5 years or when I’ve searched further back than that. UK is a very different story as Jeff mentioned.
For servicing I would be changing any fluid not included in the service. From memory diff oil is on some very long change period that seems risky for such a small volume. And the transmission fluid as already mentioned.
Cheers,
Scott

Yeah, that salt in England is a real killer. Hope that never comes here.

Hi DiscoMick,
would you care to elaborate on the "grease everything" comment as I'm about to head off on a road trip for a few months, didn't think modern cars had grease points? I haven't had mine serviced lately, but I will be checking brake linings, oil change and filters etc, and maybe diff oil too. Thanks.
