dropped the oil in the fender today and while i was over the service pit i thought i would investigate why my handbrake was slipping.

i went to undo the bolts to disconnect the prop shaft from the t-case and discovered all four bolts were loose. i removed the prop shaft and pulled the hand brake drum off to discover t-case oil everywherel. i replaced the seal and used a whole can of brakeclean to tidy up the brake shoes insitu (i tried to get the brake shoes off but do you reckon i could remove those stupid little springs with the caps on top that look like they have to be depressed and turned 90 degrees). i grabbed new nylock nuts and put it all back together. so nice having a handbrake back. i got home the the hand brake drum was pretttyy hot so i backed the handbrake off another 1/2 turn, must jack a wheel up and give it a spin to see if the shoes are dragging

i checked all the other bolts on the drive line and all was good, am going to grab another 12 nuts to replace the existing as od only knows how many times they have been on an off.

shes all good for boonah now

<span style="color:blue">if the nuts and threads arent damaged....just loctite them in place.....

and to release the little clip....use a pair of pliers....push against the spring
first till it moves a bit then grip the cetre bit and turn it.....
oh...and place a finger from your other hand behind the pin or it will move in with the cup and spring.....</span>

I found out the hard way that the locknuts should only be used once.
OK you can stretch that out to 3 or 4 but then chuck them.
I bought a box of 50 or so and then they were only 25c ea.
A mechanic re - used ours just once too much and the driveshaft nearly parted ways with the gearbox on her Rangie.
Lucky I paid attention to her when she said it was making funny noises.
