The barrel on the steering lock on my 2013 Defender is giving me trouble. Sometimes can't get key to turn to ignition and start and also can't turn off. Do I go for genuine or Allmakes or Britpart? Or is there an easy fix?

Just found info on this problem in another thread. Seems it probably the switch so I now know what’s going on.

I have just replaced the ignition switch assembly on my son's 2003 Deefer TD5 with a "genuine LR" switch assembly. It feels kind of chunky but works OK and has keys that look like the Puma keys, not like the TD5 keys. The aftermarkets I have seen are all like the older TD5 and older type switch assemblies and keys.

It can be either the switch at rear of mechanism or the barrel itself.
There are threads about the web on removal - keep your sweat jar handy
I replaced the safety bolts with socket head cap screws - I’m happy to take that risk
When mine went all dicky I just replaced the whole unit, so have a different door key to ignition.
No biggy on a 130
I just use the fob and have a door key zip tied under the vehicle for SHTF moments.

Defender ended up going to Brighton Landrover on a truck thanks to Landrover assist. Initially about 300 bucks for new switch fitted which wasn't too bad. But now they say the lock is dodgy so having that fitted too to be doubly safe. Not changing door lock cause being a ute I only have one. Will only ever use it if a have a flat battery so happy to have 2 keys! Brighton have been good but as usual at dealer prices but had no choice as my local indie is closed for 2 weeks.
