Every year at ANZAC day I hear of someone dressing with fake medals and fake stories. Never really understood it myself. The really funny part of that is when they try telling people who were really at the places they claimed to be what happened[thumbsupbig]. Now EX RSL members including a Doctor even have pulled that one! (https://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/leongatha-rsl-president-dr-david-edwards-faked-service-records/news-story/b763b7cb355fce26c6b9e71f62072615)[wink11]
A teacher in the US who 'was at the Sante Fe School shooting" was not at the the Sante Fe School shooting[bighmmm] CNN, Wall Street Journal and others had published his lies (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-48836786). Bow your head in shame Mr Briscoe your Busted!

In Rome, adult, celibate men in strange, flowing robes, parading around while carrying beautifully crafted incense stenchers, all the while intoning mysterious Latin phrases.
"Quid vult deus" I suppose.

Lee Israel is a classic one, the movie about her scam "Can you ever forgive me" is great.

in the 1980's in Japan advertisements appeared of limited edition sets of nude Marilyn Monroe prints from a previously unknown source.
Ads ran for several months, then it was announced that the prints would not be available.
A full refund would be sent to all the addresses the print sets were meant to go to.
This duly occurred.
Cheques made out to the names of the prospective purchasers arrived with 'Japanese Pornography Company' boldly printed on them.
Nothing illegal here, but a lot of cheques were never banked.
cheers, DL

You could probably cross reference belief the moon landing was a fake, IQ and certain American states.

The 1.5 million people planning to storm Area 51 don't know what they're in for
Storm Area 51 is a Facebook joke. There are lots of reasons it's a bad idea - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-07-18/storm-area-51-is-a-facebook-joke-airforce-says-its-a-bad-idea/11320398)
