I currently race and am president of the Hyundai Excel racing association in Victoria, a really great one make series. A bit of info here Motorsport Racing | Hyundaiexcelracing (https://www.hyundaiexcelracing.com.au/)A few of us thought it would be fun to enter the 24 hour of Lemons race at Calder in August and set about building a car. The cars have to be built to a budget under the rules, since we all have plenty of Excel parts it was obvious what car to use. My mate Tim got the car for a slab and he and his other half did the body work. Last weekend we had a working bee on the car, chucked in a roll cage I had, new clutch, race seat mounts fabbed and installed and electricals done. All money raised is going to prostate and breast cancer research so not only will it be fun but also giving money to a great cause. Will let you know how we go!

Well we did it!

Who would have thought that a 20 something year old Hyundai Excel that my mate bought for a slab could complete 1700Klm over 24 hours pretty much going flat out. The car really has only had a service, some cheap Pedders shocks and springs put in it, brake pads and some average tyres put on it. We had one mechanical issue (alternator died) over the weekend. Incredibly we were quick through the corners getting held up by some cars that should have been faster, but the lack of power held us back.
Driving on the Thunderdome at Calder Park in incredibly dark conditions is something I'll never forget. Gets your attention screaming around a banked track at 170 kmh into darkness. But we made it and won best presented car and team award to top the weekend off.

Watched the Excel racing at Queensland Raceway this year. Best category at the track on the day. Such good racing and tussles on the track.
