hi there all

I know it was the 50 year celebrations for the Land Rover was in 1998, therfore in 2008 it would be the 60th.

Is there any big wizz bang event being planned for?

Its still some time off - just curious, and pre planning.

there is some plans being set even as we speak.
a consortium of members from the sydney lroc, victorian lroc and the ACT lrc are planning the event for easter 2008. the venue will probably be cooma, but there is talk of an alternative, possibly canberra.
there is also a proposal that running the expo that year might be too much for the small group of volunteers within the syd lroc. however, it may be run in conjunction with the cooma celebrations...we haven't decided yet

I am investigating the possibility of the LROC Brisbane running something.

Stay tuned.

it's a pity it's such a big country in some respects. it would be great to get the whole country together for the 60th.
certainly show those poms a thing or two about obsessiveness

It certainly would.

So have discussions only just started barney? Would it run in a similar fashion to the 98 event? Matt

don't know matt, i wasn't there. i want to the jeep 50th in 1990 when i had one of those heaps, and when the LR one came around, i found out too late, ihad already organised a trip with a heap of my mates in jap 4wds to the brindabellas on the same weekend and actually saw some of the LR guys driving around there and i really didn't know anybody who'd be interested in coming down to it with me.
so this one will be a first for me too

I was in Cooma in '98 & if it's run along the same lines as the Victorian Clubs effort it will be huge. The Sydney LROC ran most of the "Trips" & the ACT club (I think) ran the jymkhana, which was terrific.

I not long ago relooked at the video of Cooma '98 and can't wait for 2008. It can't help but be bigger as back then there was not huge advertising other than through dealerships & clubs etc and managed 537 Land Rovers in one paddock.

I know Landie owners that had not been aware it was even on until well after, infact in Cooma itself the council had not informed local business that their town would be unindated by thousands of people in Land Rovers. This fact I know as I did business in Cooma back then with a number of retailers.

There will be a plan for the Guiness Book of Records to have the most Land Rovers in a procession, in the UK it was 260? something, surely we Aussies can blitz this paltry figure by double https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Something to look forward to after all, even 2 years away.

Cheers

If it ends up being in Cooma - Jenny and I would like to open the gates and welcome people to camp at our place on the Murrumbidgee, "Omaroo" (12k from town) on the river or up on the hill if they want. I'd recommend camper trailers as the ground is pretty rocky.

The property: Omaroo Website (http://www.omaroo.net)

Go to the picture gallery to see the area.

Cheers

Hi Bryce, i dont suppose i could borrow that video? I took our video camera in 98 but someone taped over it.

As for the record of 260 land rover i reckon we can beat it with a considerable saftey margin.

Chris- If it runs i will take you up on that offer. I dont have a camper trailer though so i might need to bring a shovel. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
