View Full Version : Dual SIM mobiles?

I'd like to get a dual sim phone.

The primary sim would be private use. (Most volume of usage on here)

The 2nd sim would be for business use – primarily SMS, some voice, little data.

I don't need a new phone just something recent-ish.

I'd prefer Android but am not necessarily attached to any particular brand of Android phone.

A decent camera would be a bonus, but as long as its at least as good as my current Note 5 that's fine.

Also are there any dual sim deals out there e.g. with a shared data plan?

Reading this Dual SIM Phones | Compare Models, Prices & Plans – Canstar Blue (https://www.canstarblue.com.au/phone/dual-sim-phones/)
it seems I'd need a dual-active sim phone so that I can use my personal phone, but receive SMS on my business line as soon as they are sent to me?

Suggestions / comments please?

I have a midrange Android Motorola G7 Power (big battery), which supposedly is double SIM.
I'm still slowly working out how to use it, but it has a decent sized screen (to double as instrument mode while in the car)

I have an Oppo dual sim. Works fine. 16mp front camera plus separate rear camera. Also takes a separate memory card. Office works sell them, but I bought mine in Rangoon.
Mine is on a Woolworths $20 a month plan.
I really can't understand why people pay ridiculous amounts for overrated iPhones. Must be fashion.

A quick search brings up OPPO phones for $1400, must be fashion end of OPPO?

As a power user of my phone - never seems to be away from my bloody ear - I’m not sure you could claim an iPhone or any other high end phone is over rated.

They all perform very well

As for iPhone itself, unhacked, not slowed by the need for antivirus, secure, and reliable hardware.

Never had on fail, killed a heap of android work phones - so now use my own phone and get an allowance for it.

I have a Motorola g5+ as my emergency travel phone.

The really nice thing I like about Motorola is you can have dual sims and a micro sd card. Most other dual sim phones will only allow a second sim or an SD card, not both. Their android implementation is also pretty vanilla, without the bloat and scumware a lot of other manufacturers install.

Also check that both sims can transmit and receive 3G or better. Some of the the cheaper phones will only receive and transmit on 2g for the second sim. 2g is dead in OZ now but still used in other parts of the world.

Cheers

Steve

I looked around and realised my wife is at work.
I may not get forgiveness but....

Screw it - just bought this seemed like a good deal with 'free' powerbank included

Based on what I have read.

I thought that as part of US trade sanctions on China, that the Android operating system for Huawai phones in not longer supported by Google. So what you have will still work but no more updates and maybe no access to the Google Play store.

I think Huawai is now developing their own operating system and will have their own app store later in the year.

I could be wrong through.

And for the conspiracy thread - Huawei May contain eavesdropping hardware [emoji6] hence not allowed for Government use.

I have a one+ it's the 5T model which was the last before they changed to the one+6.

I brought it outright through Kogan for somewhere between $650 - $800, including a hard cover. I can't remember the exact price, but at the time I was looking to upgrade my Nexus 6 and a Pixel 2L was out of my budget at the time.

I like the vanilla android devices and even though one+ use their own OS, you wouldn't notice the difference between it and a pixel/nexus os, unlike a Samsung or Huawei (not that is an issue anymore).

At the time I had heard of one+ devices, but not had anything to do with them. I had also not heard anything bad about them. They have their own user community where there are areas much like this forum for help, sharing pictures taken, programming and competitions. It's actually really cool.

Anyway, back to the phone..

The 5T has dual Sim, with slot two also able to be used for expanded storage, dual lense camera which is amazingly good, the screen isn't lastest tech - but you wouldn't know because it is clear and has a range of adjustability for different scenarios, finger print scanner that is faster than the pixel one, has a little slider switch to change from ring-vibrate-silence handy for changing while in your pocket, 64g memory and I think 4g ram. USB C charging/download. The down side to this model is it has one speaker at the bottom of the phone and it isn't IP67 or 68. Not that I generally care about either two issues.

Plus all the other crap they list in the phone features.

I haven't had a issue with this phone, which to me is odd as usually I have had phones freeze up randomly or get slow when you are doing multiple things. I rate it and are considering using to the latest model when this ones service life comes to an end next May/June, rather going back to a Pixel.

Worth having a look anyway.

I think Trump has backed off on the Android ban for Huwai after Google got grumpy at him for hurting an American business.

Yes Trump has backed off Huawei because, typically, he wasn't aware of the implications before making decisions....

AX7? Sits in that range... Very popular phones in Thailand.

If you don’t need screen resolution or speed they’re a solid unit.

The higher end Oppo units run $1k-$1.5k

Huawei higher end stuff is in the same bracket (some discounting atm due to lagging sales).
They even do a Porsche designed unit at $2.6k

As a comparison new ip6 runs $600 up to the XsMax at $2k

All playing in similar spaces...

Australian prices are not Myanmar prices. Companies price according to what consumers will pay, not cost of manufacture.
My OPPO is a A1601. It is available in Australia for $329.
I'm very happy with mine.

Myanmar is not Thailand [emoji41]

I’m well aware how they price.
Price is reflective of features, but not of cost to implement them [emoji6]

Luckily they (manufacturers) all make low, mid and High end phones to enable users to match their requirements.

The latest things is "virtual sims or eSims" where the phone doesn't actually have a 2nd card slot but they "piggyback" another sim on it electronically. Also the old sim cards could only save 100 contacts but the new ones are 200 or 250 IIRC. I just changed mine as I got a new phone and don't trust saving the details on the phone, I rather have it on the sim card, much more reliable I think.

Until you lose it, and it’s all gone. [emoji41]

Cloud based encrypted storage is far more reliable.

Finally lashed out and replaced a cracked screen and dying battery, falling through '70%'.. Allegedly.
Local Bentley bloke, $126 for screen assy and good quality battery. iPhone 2016 SE. Nearly fixed it from mail order parts... but chickened out.
Useless Trivia. Mine is one of the last of the old tech screens, newer OLED lood very bright and sharp, also very fragile. - HE loves them !

The household spare phone is a BANGGOOD "iNew" Dual SIM + TF . Worked a treat up in Bali with local and AU SIMS. Bought it late 2015. Still runs fine. Cost around $120 back then.

My last 2 have been Notes and I couldn't be without them now. Built like tanks. Galaxy was the first true waterproof phone. Mine get used in the boat (including to mirror and control the Garmin GPSMap. They say you shouldn't use your business phones in the salt when boating but mine have never failed doing so, even coping salt spray at times). The ability to smoothly [emoji3578] with a stylus is fantastic to me. It is also vital when drawing up routes on Garmin Active Captain for transfer to my GPSMap in the boat. [emoji519] should really add a built in stylus for one of their range. The stylus is also very handy for remote controlling the camera on the phone from a distance. Makes taking family shots etc very cool. Cheers
