Memory Maps,
I have this App on both my iPhone and my tablet. So, learning basically how to use it all, the maps seem to be quite good,, happy with that lot. It seems to just be a copy of the Hema system, and apparently we can add to it all from Google as well.
Last week, we took a trip around and used the map on a few occasions, however, between uses, we’ve ended up with straight lines between the last place we used it, and when we restarted again. It shows up as a “as the crow flys” type line across country.
The main question is, how do we stop this, and how if possible, how do we get rid of the current lines.
Any help will be much appreciated, thanks in advance guys gals.

Cheers Chops

Hi,
I have never used memory map, so I'm guessing here.
What is happening, is that mm is seeing it as one track.
Are there options to modify the data collection/recording such as minimum speed/distance, or time not moving?
I have set my time not moving on my data logging gps to 30 minutes before it creates a new track.
Do you have the option of post trip data manipulation in the software? You can split or join tracks using that.
Cheers

I have been using Memory Map for years. You have to go into the screen that starts logging your journey. The little arrow down the bottom right hand side and press "start logging" up the top :)

Yep, I get that bit, but my problem is when essentially the phone stops working for some reason, (today I think it was due to a low battery ??) then when you open the phone again/start it, the program draws a straight line from where you were to where you are now. Does that make sense. I'll get a screen shot of my phone and post it up shortly.

In your Setting-GPS Settings, is it set to run GPS in background?

Cheers ChopsI think you have a trip being logged so it tries to continue every time you boot it up again. You need to find a button that says Stop Logging. It may be on a drop down menu from the top somewhere.

Is there a 'cancel route' or similar option?

Here is a screen shot of what’s happening.
So my problem is just the fact that it creates straight lines. I’d like to think I shouldn’t have to be logging on and off every five minutes so to speak,, it should just keep going until “I choose” to turn it off.

It if is tracing a line when you move it is tracking (or logging) a "trip". Do you have a tab near the top of the screen that you can drag down? You may have to tap or double tap the main map to activate it? See my screen shot below, I have a bottom on this drag down bit to start and stop logging a trip. Your button should be red with "stop logging" written on it. When there is no trip being logged, the GPS circle will just move along leaving no blue trail behind it.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190721/d515ef990625e790ed1b85a3dab2ff70.jpg

Just to clarify that picture, thats the second run on the same stretch of road. The first run the phone stayed on all the time, but today it didn't.

Hi Chris.
Live attached two screen shots of technically the same page, but it looks a touch different. You’ll see on mine it’s got tabs at the bottom of the page, one being an arrow, this leads to the “Start Logging “ button.
This is on my phone, I believe my iPad works in the same fashion, I’ll have to check though.

Yep mate, its that Start-Stop Logging button that plots (or not plots) the track line.

That could be a handy feature, but I dont think MM has that function at all, and I'm not even sure if I can manipulate anything after the fact,,, I'll have to do some more research on it.

I don't believe so Mick, although I suspect I can probably "Delete" a route/log if needs be after the fact, but again, I'll have to check that out.
Like our LR's, there are forums for Memory Map, so I might just have to get involved.

I have not actually had to turn that on or off. It was on from the first time I opened it up. This is the first time I've actually turned it off.

If it is now off you won't leave the blue track lines any more.

Yep,, totally understand that,, just confused as to why it was interrupted/stopped, then started again leaving the straight line. I will turn it back on when I next need to run it,, in about two weeks from now [thumbsupbig]

I will turn it back on when I next need to run it,, in about two weeks from now [thumbsupbig]There is a check box in the settings to keep the gps running in the background. Tick this box so that you can start a trip log, then minimise the app and use your phone for other stuff, with the trip being logged in the background. You shouldn't get the straight line skips then.

All it's doing is saying "Last time I looked you were there, now you're here, so I draw a line from there to here." When it's tracking your movement, it's doing exactly that, but doing it every few seconds, so it follows the road you're on.
I was driving a sat-tracked truck coming from Perth back east. The tracker had a glitch, and marked me as stationary at Southern Cross. When I restarted the truck in Ceduna after breakfast a day or two later, the tracker statted working again. It emailed the boss that I had exceeded the speed limit. Apparently, on the time I had breakfast, it figured I had crossed WA and half of SA, therefore I must have been doing around 2450 kph (slightly over the allowed limit of 102 kph). Needless to say, I didn't get a non-compliance notice for that one!
