Greeting
I have just recently brought a 2003 D2 with the original factory fitted stereo, with the rear window aerial. When using the AM band and either the electric windows or the climate control is activated static is heard.
I know the head was removed at some stage to reset the access code as there was an invoice in the glove box,
Can anybody please advise what the most likely cause is for this interference? And suggest a fix if possible.

Not specifically, but AM reception is very susceptible to interference, and it does not take much of a defect in shielding/suppression for it to become obvious.
At a guess it will be a poor earth on the shielding of the aerial leadin coax, or a break in the outer casing, or something such as that. If it is a replacement radio rather than the original it is likey to be a similar error in the installation.

I appreciate the response.
I guess I!ll pull the head and check for obvious damage, and then run another aerial with new coax, rather than try and follow the coax to the rear window. In that way I can prove or otherwise the coax is at fault.

I had similar problems with my 04 D2, especially along the electric railway lines in Perth and in the country.
Eventually solved by putting a separate aerial on the bull bar, with dual wiring back to the head unit - and disconnecting/removing the amplifier in the RHS rear headlining above the aerial in the window. significant improvement!!

Thanks for the response. It looks like an external aerial is the solution.i!ll give it a go next weekend.

A lot of people who usually listen to FM forget just how much interference there can be with AM - FM usually just stops working, AM gets unusable due to interference.

Yep, you only have to drive around Melbourne near any tram track to hear AM go nuts. Hard to listen to on the move around the CBD as it drops into static so much of the time.

The Melbourne trams are exactly the example I nearly posted!
But you get the same thing for example, out in the bush when you get near a power line.
The plus for AM of course is range - for example, 549kHz at Cumnock (ABC local radio, Central West) can be received over almost all of NSW, where my local Western Plains radio (s all over its primary coverageFM on the Warrumbungles) had dead spot area, wherever there is a hill between you and the transmitter.
