View Full Version : Where is the wiper motor on a Defender?

My wipers have given up the ghost after making a clicking noise for a couple of weeks.

I've found the page in the PDF workshop manual to overhaul the wiper motor, which says:

OVERHAUL WIPER MOTOR
DISMANTLE
1. Remove the wiper motor and drive from the vehicle
2. Remove the wiper motor gearbox cover.
3. Remove the circlip and plain washer securing the connecting rod.
4. Withdraw the connecting rod.
blah blah blah.

Sorry if it's an obvious question, but - where do I go to find the wiper motor? Am I pulling the dash apart or going in under the bonnet? Would be good if there was a picture in the manual to get you started!

(BTW - It's a 2001/2002 Defender 130 TD5 - and I did a search through 4 pages of 'wiper' search results and found nothing)

It is sat in front of the passenger inside the truck If you sit in the passenger seat and look forward you see a split in the lower dash. Under the try. It is sat in there between there and the door
You take of the grap handle on the side and then the bottom corner and you will find the motor in there

Hope this helps

Disconut - your manual looks a LOT better than mine! Is that out of the RAVE CD advertised in the left hand column of the home page?

What does RAVE stand for?

Anyway, thanks very much Disconut & Reads90 - that makes it perfectly clear.

It is a "Rover Aftersales Viewing Environment" disc.

Mine is not from this site.

Hi Rosco
Inc sells them in the Empourium,cheap as chips 8) 8) 8) 8)

Hey Spudboy
Checkout where the wiper mechanism connects to the driven shaft.Series Landys pluck up there, and I bet they didnt modernise the setup too much when they invented the Defender.
It may save you pulling the motor out.

I have supplied one to Inc for the Emporium to assist with his collection. Give him a PM and I'm sure he will make one available very cheaply. It helps keep the site going.

That looks like a LHD car. On my County, it is on the LHS, not the right.

That it is. Just go opposite the steering wheel and it will be there. (spatial thinking applies. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ )

Am about to replace my cooked wiper motor and need some help.

If I want to grease the rest of the setup, how much extra of the dash do I need to pull out. ie am I going to have to pull the instrument cluster out and the whole dash assembly or is there a short cut?
