Recovery Points on D4

Hi

I am setting off on a Simpson Desert trip in mid Sept and wanted some advice on recover points for D4. I don't have Bull Bar. I know there is a recovery point at the front but I am not sure if this is strong enough to snatch from...just in case I get stuck. I went into several LR shops, and ARB and they weren't able to provide any solution. I rang LR Australia. Got nothing.

I looked through this forum and there seem to be mixed opinions.

I can get some recovery points fabricated (about $600) from a specialized 4x4 shop.

Has anyone had any experience with D4 recovery?. Is the standard recovery point ok for sand?

Any feedback is appreciated.

Both the front ring below the bumper and the rear ring behind the panel on the rear bumper are nominated recovery points. You will get no better solutions.

Yes the front and rear points are plenty strong enough. OK, the video shows static load I know, but you get the drift.

Recommend doing some sand hill training before you go, if you haven't already. With all the good buttons that are on the console (sand) use them, they work. However, the most valuable asset is a good tyre gauge and softening the footprint of the tyre . . . . deflating. Even down to 12 psi if you can't move. Don't spin the wheels and reverse works for me . . . that was in my old Nissan Patrol and I thought I was in DS. The D4 is the perfect truck now.
Oh! You need a good compressor to go with the tyre gauge and strap on a pair of Max-tracks. Don't leave home without them and enjoy the desert.

Thx everyone for the advise. I will save myself $700 by not getting special points fabricated and fitted.

I will take a shovel and some tracks just in case.

If you haven't done so already, do a bit of sand driving before you go to have a play with the D4's settings. See links below for some tips (plenty of others on AULRO). For instance, if you do get stuck in sand, you can try 'rock crawl' mode which sometimes works, before reaching for the maxtracks and shovel. Anyhow, good luck with the prep work, and enjoy your trip! Don't forget to add some photos when you get back.
