The system may at anytime in the next day or two go offline or into lockdown mode so it can be moved to the new hosting.

this means NO new messages can be posted while the system is being moved, as the old info has to be merged into the new setup.

i will put an automatic redirect to the new site on www.aulro.com so you end up in the right place. do not try to use any link other the that url to access the site until advised.

during and after the upgrades this original site will be available to view and search at www.our4wd.com

sorry the notice is so short but other events have dictated the more urgent move to the new hosting and software upgrade.

It appears the use of "forums" in the url blocked many people on goverment firewalls https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ a situation i am attempting to avoid. the url to access the site should always be http://www.aulro.com/ so please save your bookmarks accordingly. Using the base url will ensure you are directed to the right place when accessing the place.

thanks for your patience https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

hmmm

this software is becoming a pain in the rear, it simply isnt doing things i need done so i may have to go to vbulletin......such is life. if that happens it will loose all the passwords and everyone will need to reset them.

i heard it was tough but i gotta say invision must have the most inane and complex method of editing the templates and skins i have ever seen. just trying to get basic adsense code installed is an absolute nightmare....

arghhhhhh.... feel better now https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Use the "My Controls" link on the top info bar and then select "Change Email Address" to update your address.

many users can not login using their old nicknames as the password conversion has some flaws and no matter what you try they cant use that username. i have put in a support ticket but they havent gotten back to me.

building a vbulletin board in the background and will be importing this into it when i have it ready.

so everybody needs to make sure their email address is correct in their control panel as i am going to have to ditch the passwords so the users currently locked out can get back in..

there are a multitude of things i need to do, but hopefully everyone will be able to login to this one and we can get on with being here...

I'll go along with that - anyone who sends me HTML mail, unless I am expecting it, can assume it will be automatically deleted without being read. And I don't even use Microsoft software!

The time has come... i can avoid it no longer....

The site has grown to the stage where it is once again outgrowing the server hardware etc it sits on.

The next step costs big bucks i simply cannot afford on my own.

so i have the following choices as i see it.

limit the services available and the number of users that can be online at any time ( i have limited it to 75 this morning till i work out what i can do) and severly limit what unregistered users can see.

or

move to a subscription service, which will achieve the second part of the first option in a flash and negate the need to upgrade services....

or

spend the money on a dedicated server and rack access

this option will cost close to $2000 up front and about $2400 per year.

i simply cannot afford that on the money i make.

or

let it die...

i have limited the number of people who can be online at one time to 75 in the hope that that will keep the place stable till i can sort what the next step is...

my apologies for the inconvenience.

Outlaw
11th January 2007, 08:59 AM
I'd say first of all if you have it that non-registered/guests can see the home page only with a list of the latest posts but nothing else without registering is one step.

Secondly i personally think you'd lose a lot going to a subscription service as i feel people would be reluctant to join if they haven't seen what it is.

Thirdly maybe time to find some serious sponsorship to try for the upgrade... or even god forbid a naming rights sponsor

incisor
11th January 2007, 09:02 AM
going to subscription would not work imho, i just listed it as an option...

Outlaw
11th January 2007, 09:09 AM
problem with subscription though is as you've mentioned most landy owners are tight asses and would probably just move to a different LR forum rather than pay.

Might be the sort of thing to post a poll on maybe to guage a response...

incisor
11th January 2007, 09:20 AM
i left the not out :p silly me

i dont think subs would work myself...

will see how prunning unreged users priviledges goes....

incisor

as most have noticed, there have been ocassional upheavels in the past that have required action by the admins and or mods to quell.

this latest incarnation of the software used by AULRO allows this to be somewhat automated and much easier to enforce or apply and manage.

so you all know how it works i have laid out the following simple guide.

i will add more to it as time allows. it will be added to the FAQ area when i get time as well.

it works like this....

The AULRO Infraction System Explained

Unacceptable behaviour will be rewarded with demerit points.

Certain behavours attract more points than others as listed below

Inappropriate Language results in 1 demerit point

Excessive Unruly Behaviour results in 2 demerit points

Inapproriate Commercial Post(s) results in 2 demerit points

Personal Attack(s) on Other Member(s) results in 3 demerit points

Sexual Harrasment or serious attack(s) results in 5 demerit points

Should you reach 5 demerit points in any 12 month period you will be banned for 7 days

Should you reach 10 demerit points in any 12 month period you will be banned for 1 month

Should you reach 20 demerit points in any 12 month period you will be permanently banned

Admins and Moderators have the power to award demerit points.

There are buttons available in each thread to report any behaviour you consider inappropriate "considering the conditions of access". The reports are passed on to Moderators and Admins.

Please consider the conditions of access before reporting another user.

it is not something to be played with, inappropriate use of the reporting system will earn you points as well if it seems to be excessive.

should you have any suggestions on how i may improve or make this system more effective please PM me.

incisor
17th January 2007, 09:06 AM
Re item 1. the inappropriate language clause

to clarify what i mean it to mean, so to speak....

i meant it to mean more than "words" thats why i used "language". not so much meant as general swearing but more aimed at abusive or derogitory or belittleing phrasing etc.. that is boderline on personality attacks or demeaning in other ways, suggestive or racist etc etc. stuff that is too pointed to be passed off jokingly.

it would also be used for really excessive swearing i suppose if it was really over the top, but that hasnt been much of a problem to now, whereas there has been some sniping, bordering on racist or harassing remarks that have been attended to quietly in the past.

hope it makes sense to you.

incisor

The "Silver" and "Gold" levels give you increased message space, gallery space and messaging options. They are annual subscriptions.

The "Vendor" subscription allows to to advertise your wares in "The Verandah" forum area and to have a commercial signature in your profile so it is displayed with your posts. This is an annual subscription. It also raises your access level to "Subscriber", giving you increased message and gallery space, you can also subscribe to the Silver and Gold packages to get more resources as you require them.

Banner Adverts
===========

How this necessary evil works.

there have been some changes in how the advertising works on the system.

i have advised the advertising supplier that drop down adverts are not wanted on aulro.com and i havent seen one today so it may have been acknowledged and acted on.

there will be a price to pay for that.

the two top banners directly under the logo are local advertsers who use my banner advert server to advertise on aulro.com. I run this service to help out land rover related businesses at an extremely affordable price.

the bigger banner advert below the top two is supplied by an independant advertising server and is the most profitable of the services.

i get paid different amounts depending on what page is opened.

i get paid twice as much if you open the forumhome page ( the one with the listing of all the forums, here (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/) )

please feel free to use it to navigate round the place when you can...

feel free to click on any of the banners as i am sure the advertisers, who are supporting aulro.com and you, would love some support in return!

thanks for your time..

well, it is time to begin the next upgrade cycle.

there may be some minor down time in the next week or so when i put the new server hardware in the rack beside this existing server,

hopefully their will be no major hiccups.

once the hardware is bedded in i will begin to port the existing server over to the new hardware ...

aiming for minimal down time, but you just never know :p

Mobile and Tablet Software

there are two main contenders

Tapatalk and Forum Runner

until now i have supported both most of the time

i know i am going to upset some but i have decided to only support forum runner in the future UNLESS something changes with tapatalk.

just about every time i have to upgrade it on the server i have issues and it also seems to load the server a little more than Forum Runner

Forum Runner have a free version and a Pay version for Iphone IPad and Android

Forum Runner - vBulletin / XenForo / myBB / phpBB Forum iPhone App (http://www.forumrunner.net/)

I have just had to buy Forum Runner myself as i was using Tapatalk till now.

system tweaks

been playing and slowly tweaking settings to the point i now have the gallery working (for me anyway) apart from mouse overs on images.

markets now seem stable

PM me with any error messages you may see.

lot of server tweaks to get some of the transactional delays out of the way.

optimization of server load and memory usage.

trying to get garage software working but for the life of me i can not get pics to work with it.

the future

at the moment i have no intention of upgrading to the later version of vbulletin although i have owned the licenses since pre release as i dont think it is stable enough nor as complete a package as this version.

as i have said earlier, if you see a problem PM me the error message you recieve and i will see what i can find.

GOLD Subscriber ONLY feature to help those on low bandwidth connections

there is now a style called "LW" available in the style selector on the bottom left of most aulro pages.

This feature is only available if you are a GOLD subscriber.

this should help those on high latency connections.

it only works in the main forum areas, if you wish to go into the markets etc you will need to go to the default style to see them properly. You will see what i mean when you use it.

In an effort to help people get reasonable shipping pricing from the USA to Australia when the american business you are buying from have no interest in shipping here or charge exorbitant shipping prices, AULRO has affiliated with International Parcel Services to help make arranging this sort of task easier for you.

By signing up with them you get an american address to get your gear delivered to, and they then directly forward it to you here in australia at a pretty reasonable rate.

(very handy for getting an account with direct shipping on ebay.com etc etc)

AULRO gets a small kickback to help offset the running costs.

Click on the link below then click on the Green REGISTER button to get your own american delivery address ;)

Reality Bites

Sadly the day has come when i am being forced into some changes to Aulro's subscription model or it's lack there of to be more precise.

With approx 18000 overall users and approx 6000 regular users, the system has grown to the point where things need to change a little to keep it viable

These modifications are the result of a number of recent events but primarily the fact that i nearly died a few months ago and hence came to the realization i need to do something for Aulro's sake sooner rather than later. Too many people have put too many hours into this place for it to just up and vanish with me...

In the hope this will future proof it.

It is my intention to make some subtle changes without trying to disturb the place too much.

From 1 January 2015

There will be a new subscription level that costs $11 per year or $1.50 per month

It will offer you continued full access to the system the same as non subscribers get now as registered users.

From 1 January 2015 new users will get 3 months free access to the system and then access will be reduced to many areas and features UNLESS they hold a current subscription.

If you have been here more than 3 months on that date your access will be reduced accordingly

NONE OF THIS WILL AFFECT CURRENT SUBSCRIBERS ON THE SYSTEM.

The current subscriber, silver, gold, and vendor level subscriptions will continue as they have in the past without change.

I am well aware this will have an impact and change the dynamic of the system but what needs to be done, needs to be done.

The extra income will ensure the system remains a viable entity.

So no matter when you signed up prior to the 1st October 2014, you now have until the 1st January 2015 to subscribe to Aulro.com or your access will be reduced.

You can subscribe at any time prior by clicking on the link below!

the start of the upgrade regime due to the increased subscription rate is underway.

new managed vps hosting to serve some of the ancillary services that keep the site alive and do the mundane tasks in the background and to take the load off the old server which is nearing 10 years in service, has been bought and paid for, for the next two years... ;)

i will be porting services over to it as i get time.

the aulro banner ad server being the first service ported over.

is being looked into

paypal are about to unleash merry hell just before christmas 2014

on december 13 they are turning off ssl 3.0 support

this may have some pretty sad consequences for people using older operating systems as well as subscription payments here on aulro.com

they say

On December 3, 2014 at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST), PayPal will disable the use of SSL 3.0 within our systems. What this means is that if you use SSL 3.0 to interface with PayPal , you will no longer be able to process transactions from the date above. It may also impact consumers who use old web browsers to log in to PayPal hence communications will be rolled out to all our users to ensure there’s no significant impact as a result of this.
Recently we determined that SSL 3.0 was the target of a new vulnerability risk known as POODLE hence the move. Before setting a deadline, we took some time to carefully consider the needs of our merchants and our requirement to keep all customers safer and more secure.

enjoy!

i personally think it would be a lot better if it came from a couple of users and not my one eyed vision of what lays before me for hours each day :D:D

so i propose that i will offer 24 months Gold access to who ever comes up with the screed that the moderators consider best fits the bill

:welcome:

On the 13th Feb 2017 the main server decided to call it a day, two weeks before it was due to be replaced.

As a result, i got the system up and going on the old software but in the end i just could not get it stable on the new operating systems.

Sadly I had to start again on 22nd Feb 2017

even sadder was the fact that i had to use the backup from the 13th as none of the later ones would import into the new version 4.2.3 software

that means anything posted between the 13th and the 22nd was euthanised and i am unable to import it into this setup

Features are being reinstated as i work out how to get around the issues i am experiencing.

I "hope" to reinstate the old site in read only mode once i get this place sorted...

sorry for any inconvenience caused ...

- All market place forms are in place. You need to use the form avail from the Navbar Button "Advert Forms" to place and advert in the markets. Only exceptions are "Marketplace Alerts" and "What's it Worth" areas. If you don't use the form to place your advert it will be deleted without notice by a moderator. Tapatalk uses should use the Web View option available on top right dot menu to place adverts using the forms. At the moment I have the adverts showing up straight away without moderation. if there is too much abuse of the system the areas will go back to being moderated which means the adverts don't show up till approved.

- Notification emails containing urls should be working fine again.

If you wish to delete your advert because it has sold or you wish to remove the advert from the site please use the "!" icon to report the post and leave what you require done in the comments box, please.
- attachments. seems the first system crash a month before the big crash affected some attachments, also some attachments posted during the 10 days or so when the server was having serious issues, have been corrupted and or removed. I spent most of the day sorting through them in the hope of getting things going as they should. i found only 5 attachments uploaded before the first system crash that had any issues. i found approximately 150 posted between the crashes that were causing issues and i had to delete them. IF one of your posts has the attachments mucked up, please report it and it will be put on the repair list.
- user profiles. i have reports of a couple of users profiles not being available or displaying others info. this seems to be an issue when there is non alpha numeric characters in the user name. again please report the issue via pm or in the ask the moderators area.

I don't take it, paypal sends it to me on your behalf. If you need want or require to terminate that auto renewing subscription you need to do it in your paypal account under recurring subscriptions. As has always been the case, I cannot and will not take any responsibility for their or your actions with regards to auto renewing subscriptions, this is clearly laid out in the terms and conditions of access. Thank you for your support.

YOU MUST USE A COMPUTER BASED WEB BROWSER TO POST IN ANY OF THE MARKETPLACE FORUM AREAS

BROWSERS / APPS ON TABLETS AND PHONES ARE NOT SUPPORTED AS I CAN FIND NO SOFTWARE THAT RELIABLY ALLOWS THEM TO INTERACT IN THIS AREA OF THE FORUM.

thank you

As of the 25th May 2018 the world as we know it will change. The European Union is implementing changes that affect how personal data is handled when someone from a country within the European Union accesses an electronically based system such as social media and forums etc.

It has many good points it has to be said, but sadly, there are many onerous repercussions for forums in particular, that could make many of them inoperable and i know many that have a very high content of European users are seriously thinking of shutting down permanently because of the onerous conditions being imposed on them, that will have little to no affect on other forms of social media eg Facebook, but will devastate forums.

AULRO.com unlike many other systems, DOES NOT IN ANY WAY ONSELL OR EXPORT YOUR DATA TO ANY THIRD PARTY

AULRO.com does employ external AD serving companies to generate income to keep this system online. They are listed in the Privacy Guidelines available via the Terms of Service link at the very bottom of each page.

AULRO.com is doing everything that it can to comply with the GDPR at this time. BUT be advised, if need be, this system will become unavailable to those residing in any European Union member country if the task becomes too onerous, or until i can get it compliant at some time in the future. I will not allow the system to be compromised because of the GDPR.

For the record

AULRO.com is fully Australian Owned and Operated, is operated from only Australian based hosting, none of the technology employed is based in the European Union and none of the staff are based in the European Union to the best of my knowledge.

Australian laws govern its operation and it is fully compliant with all those Australian laws.

to do so AULRO.com keeps a record of certain information for it's own internal use

your email address
date of birth you submit
the location you submit
your ip address when you register and when you access the system
times and dates you access the system
and of course what you post

All data is backed up daily and the backup is deleted after a week

AULRO.com does not hold your real name or other personally identifying information

Thank you for your time

About to turn cloudflare back on to test if the changes to the configuration help overcome the issues we were having with it turned on before.
