Mileage Irregularities

Hi all, this is an observation not really a problem. 2011 D4 SDV6 HSE.

Currently touring the NW of W.A. towing van & travelled about 4000km so far.

I notice that I’m consistently 1km less on the odo over 100km of roadside marker distance. Regarding speed..... google maps is showing that we are doing 5-6km/h less than indicated on the speedo (7% out approx). Finally, the fuel consumption is usually around 2-3 L/100 higher than indicated on the trip computer.

So it is what it is, but is there a reasonable explanation for the inconsistencies? I am running Pirelli Scorpion A/T’s of the right size & pressure.

Almost certainly your CCF parameters relating to wheel/tyre size and/or speedo offsets are not matched correctly. The usual "as built" speedo setting is set at 3% below actual. That is, indicated 100km/h is more like 97km/h. There are three settings that cover this function and it could be that yours is not set correctly (if someone has played around with your CCF - it would have been fine out of the factory).
Similarly, there's a wheel/tyre setting.
You'd need to get a GAP or Rovacom tool to sort this out yourself or talk to an indy.
Note that everybody says the indicated fuel consumption is optimistic by about 2l/100km, so don't worry about that!

From what I have read and experienced that's pretty normal. For example, when I changed to 18" rims with bigger tyres my speedo now runs close to accurate.

Sorry I’m a D4 newbie. What’s CCF? That’s not a D2 term and as a medical acronym it has a whole different meaning.

Sorry. Car Configuration File. It is a binary reference file that your various car computers refer to. Almost like Regimental Standing Orders! The entire file can be converted to text and read via GAP or Rovacom (and Nanocom) diagnostic tools. Not sure how editing is done with GAP, but with Rovacom/Nanocom it is via their Genesis portal which, as a licensed user, you have access to.
Many of the CCF settings can be edited to suit different markets. I've edited mine to:
Remove the leading zero from the odometer display (it just annoyed me!)
Set the speedo offset to zero. My speedo is now spot on
Set the satnav to allow editing on the move

The procedure to update the file is:
Download to the file from your car to your diagnostic tool
Upload the file to the editing platform (e.g. Genesis)
Edit and save the file with a new name
Upload the file to your car.

Similarly, you can reflash various computers with updated software, but that's a whole other topic.

There’s a CCF editing section. You do need to request it by email. There’s no downloading/uploading step to the process with Gap iiD. It’s important to know what parameters you’re changing and not just play around. You can do harm but also there’s many parameters that are irrelevant for any given model.

All those parameters would be spot on for a factory vehicle.

The odometer is 1% error, allowing for variation in tyre diameters for a given size and wear variation that is fine.

Speedo is normal error - set deliberately lower.

Fuel Calc. Display is often incorrect - it can be tweaked to be accurate but will take some time.

Just be sure to make a back-up of the factory CCF file as a fail safe.
