There are recent photos here of a heavily disguised possible new Defender. Both feature different tyre types but one looks like a Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure while the other looks like Goodyear EfficientGrip SUV. The only size they have in common is 17 inches so I assume that the vehicle in the photos has 17 inch wheels. With steel wheels as an option.

Regarding the above post and before someone else says that "I should get a life", I agree and I am working on it!

This is the first I have heard of 17 inch wheels, interesting if true, I would be happy with 18s but certainly cool if 17 steelies are avail. Thanks for posting.

Spud, why do you say that 17 is the only size these two tyre types have in common? I was just looking at a UK tyre website and both ranges seem to cover at least 16 through 20 inch rims.

If they are 17” rims,I bet they will only fit some models, those with the lower output engines,at a guess.

Does anyone think they are 17s by looking at them,to me they look like 18s, but its hard to tell.

I just had a go at measuring the ratio of rim to tyre diameter from one of those white steel wheel shots. It is definitely hard to tell but if we think standard rubber is 32" then it's almost impossible for that pic to show 17" rims. Even 18" feels like a stretch based on that image, unless the tyres are closer to 30".
The white rim is at least 60% of the overall tyre height. If it's 17" then the tyre would be 29" or smaller.

I checked on one of the tyre supplier websites and the only size I could see listed that was common to both was 17 inch. If I am wrong I apologise.....and yes I am still working on getting a life

Tyres look like 65/70 aspect ratio and to me that means 17", quite a bit of sidewall on them.

We know from lots of previous shots that the new Defender is running 32” rubber, and LR tends to like 10”/255mm tyre widths. I would be very surprised if those pics we’re talking about end up being 17” rims. It doesn’t look right to my eye and sure doesn’t match up to the numbers when you do some measurements based on the photos.

No, sorry BR. "Won't be Retro" thread will be staying closed. It basically turned into a garbage tip.
People can start breaking content up into different threads.... for example, this one could be the one for tyres and rims.

Only a few weeks out now too [emoji53][emoji15]
Hopefully it gets reopened and everyone can be as respectful as reasonably possible considering the emotions involved in the replacement/changing of an icon.[emoji1419]
Happy to use different threads but all the forums that have different threads on the new defender still have one big one that is like a general thread. Saves having a million threads to sift through and follow.

I'd take that as Gospel..Everyone's opinion is valid, I prefer Incisors take from "will be retro" with a sprinkling of my previous post here for good measure, but that's just my opinion [emoji6] either way we will find out how much retro pretty soon.

Just an observation. We now know the Defender will come standard with 32" tyres, with 18, 20 and 22" rim options. Well the Ford F150 – the most popular truck in the USA – has a lot of variants but many of them also ship with 32" tyres on 18, 20 and 22" rims. Check this out:
2019 Ford F150 Tire Sizes (https://tiresize.com/tires/Ford/F150/2019/)
275/65R18 - 32.1"/815mm
275/55R20 - 31.9"/810mm
275/45R22 - 31.7"/805mm
F150 customers are *not* short on choice for tyres in the USA, and there's a reasonable list of options for the 18's and 20's in Australia today. So long as 275 isn't too wide for the wheel wells, we should be OK.
