Peter McNamara, OAM. President, Welfare and Pensions Officer, Brisbane North region delegate, Level 3 Advocate. A member of the Mates4Mates program, and has been providing pastoral care for veterans since 1991. He has been recognised as saving many veterans from suicide, nothing is too much trouble for Peter. I feel privileged to call him a friend. Awarded the OAM, and justly so. Just wanted to put it out there, there are some good people in this World. Hope this works, the report on Peter in the Chronicle.

Peter would be the first to say no to that.

Veterans Day, 18/08/2019. A group of us, led by Peter, ambled [ the best description ] down to the Sandgate Cenotaph, where we formed a loose line in front of the names of the locals KIA from WW1 to Afghanistan. Peter laid a wreath, and Said these words. " Lord, we are here as veterans to pay our respects to all those who went before us. And especially those whose names are written before us. Amen. "

I've been coming to Anzac days here since 1985, but this simple ceremony, no crowds, no media, just a handful of veterans, of which age has wearied, and years condemned, meant more than all the others. I didn't even go to the main ceremony, and the beers afterwards. I went with my wife to visit our son & partner, and Grand daughter. Just seemed like the right thing to do. After all, those whose names are on the wall, didn't get that opportunity.

LEST WE FORGET
