Thinking of giving it a crack. I have the steel and a humble work space to give it a red-hot go.
Thinking of using 75x40x5mm RHS. Possibly some steam pipe and bends in 32NB to make the slider component.
Will probably wing it when it comes to mounting... but strictly bolted, not weld-on.
Finish will be a rattle-can home job- likely epoxy enamel that I can easily touch up as needed to make it look as new as possible, as long as possible.

Pics of your own home-jobs appreciated.
Also open to comments on Material spec. Slight concern that weight may blow out at 6.9 KG/m for the RHS rail, plus all other fittings that will attach to it.

I think I have a set of brackets which bolt onto the outriggers, where pretty much every bodies bolts to

I can bring them down when I’m next in town.

You can pick whichever RHS that suits your needs.

I think most of the land rover specific styles I've looked at use a slip joint into the circular chassis outrigger (rear), and then a crush tube and a bolt on the front outrigger, usually this is just a tab of 6mm plate.

The more 'comp spec' sliders have a u joint slip mount which extends and cups the chassis rail itself, then bolts to clamp over the top. I see this as a bit more of a hang-up point.

Interested to see some pics of what you have.

I am looking to make some for the D3 using 4mm steel. Just having trouble getting my mate from the steelyard to get me some prices.

I went with 4mm as thats what some known manufacturers have used. I am having trouble finding 4mm thick pipe in stock though. Its either 3 or 6mm

Around my way, you need to shop around as not all steel merchants stock all things.
I'm thinking either 32NB, or 40NB pipe in schedule 40 would do the trick. The likes of blackwoods can source steam pipe 90 degree bends for the detail work. Everything else is just grinder surgery.

For what its worth, I purchased the brackets from Kingpin and then welded together my own sliders, and welded them onto the brackets.

KINGPIN DIY Rock Slider Bracket Kit - KINGPIN DESIGN & Fab (https://kingpindesignandfab.com.au/product/kingpin-diy-rock-slider-bracket-kit/)

I dont consider myself a particularly good weldor/metalworker - strictly farm repair level, so this was a good compromise for me in terms of time/money and really sped up the process. I also dont have the equipment to easily work thicker metal, so theres no way I could have done as neat job on the brackets.

Rick at Kingpin was good to deal with also.

Sorry, forgot to grab mine out last night.

Mine are the same as King Pin, can jack two wheel off the ground and everything seems solid.

For the most of it, I'm nifty with a grinder. For detail of that level, It'd be possible with a drill and file on some 10mm flat bar of a suitable width- laser cutting is great for high volume patterns, but metalwork didn't begin with the invention of the CNC laser. Only limiting factor is patience, which I sometimes run out of.

I came across this thread in another forum which puts some numbers to rock slider design How-to-build-rock-sliders (https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showthread.php/46602-How-to-build-rock-sliders). Might help determine if you can get away with a lighter RHS section.
Sliders are on my to-do list so I am interested to see the finished product. Some pics would be good [biggrin].

There will be pics.
Just need to do the finishing touches on this behemoth first. Can't have too many concurrent projects, amiright?!

Here are pics of the set I have in the tool box.

Can bring them down on my next visit....must be my shout for dinner.
