A/C clutch bearing noise

I have a whirring bearing noise coming from the A/C clutch and when I switch A/C on it seems to stop.
Wondering if there is a bearing in the clutch and if an easy DYI replace.
96 V8 Disco with a serpentine belt

do you have a compressor make/model # ? If it's a Sanden, I have a catalogue and can give you the (manufacturers) pt #.

They are replaceable, but I've never swapped one out.

Thanks will check it. Had a breif look but couldn&#39;t see any make mod, but willl have a closer look in daylight.

Mine started last night. Need to look if its the belt or the bearing. its intermitent for me so far.

Edd, often it&#39;s the polyvee belt squawking. My alternator belt does it now and then, just to give me the willies. Sprinkle a little water on the belt while it&#39;s running, (watch those fingers &#33;) obviously if the noise goes, it&#39;s the belt.

I thought mine was the belt tensioner pulley bearing at first.
So I replaced it. Bought one from a bearing place &#036;7.50,( god know what dealers would charge for one) the old one when I took it out was wobbly so soon to let go. But I still have the whirring noise.
I might have a look at the belt though as when I take off on a hill it sometimes gives a slip noise.

Thanks for that. My first thought was OH great the belt is breaking. Started late friday night. Will see what I can do to make it happy. as no point replacing the bearings unless they are the problem. At least it wasn&#39;t a broken belt.
